It was the WRCA grade 10 junior team. Saints starts two grade 9s. The big guy for WRCA only played part of the first half, but by the time he left the game was out of hand. The grade 8 game had a similar result. The grade 9s did not play.

Charles Best Tournament:

Gleneagle 64 vs Handsworth 34: Gleneagle was too much for Handsworth with Grant down low and the perimeter play from Kordell Parker and Tyreke. They will definitely make some noise in the Valley.

Charles Best 48 vs STM 31: With STM missing players due to football Charles Best was able to overcome some injuries to starters and win the game. Still missing their grade 9 Graham and losing their power forward and shooting guard, they dominated the glass with really good play from 11 who went out in the third and 9 who shot the ball really well.

WRCA's Big man had to leave in the first 2 minutes of the game due to a back injury and they were also missing the other 6'3" starter.

Grant (center) and Cordell (a grade 9 SG) are both standouts for Gleneagle with the PG and SF acting as very nice role players to round out the rotation. Gleneagle is going to surprise a lot of people with their inside presence and intensity as well as skill on the perimeter. Kitsilano is a very solid team but could not compete with the athleticism and skill that Gleaneagle was able to bring to the game. It was a shame that this was not the finals as Best was missing two starters and really did not stand a chance against a superior Gleneagle team (even if healthy). Grant barely had to play in the finals for Gleneagle to secure an 20point victory. Look for Gleneagle to be first or second in the province by January.

PostSubject: Gleneagle at VC Dec 6th.   Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:59 am

VC just beat Gleneagle 68 to 59.
It was a tight game from the beginning. Gleneagle's guard (#11) is quite the 3 point machine. Will Latu played Gleneagle's big man very well. A great battle of size. Both teams show a lot of promise for this season.

VC forced Glen into timely turnovers in 1st half. Four point game most of the way. Glen led for most of the 2nd 1/2. When their big fouled out with 3 min to go, they sagged and VC went on a run. The dude guarding Alajiah (#4) was tough. Too many seconds for VC in the first half. Senior boys' basketball has a bright future given the quality junior teams that have played one another thus far.

Claremont looked very strong on the weekend. They are deep, athletic and talented, if not overly tall. Their best player vs. Vancouver College was a guard, Johnny (don't know his last name). He had 30 points and was the top all-around player on the floor. Other standouts for them were forwards Alex Jordache and Luke Collombine (BC team last summer).

SMUS gave College a good battle till the late stages and should be a force on the Island. Some top players for SMUS are forwards Matt Rud and Jordan Lane, guard Danny Wu and Grade 9 point guard Graeme Hyde-Lay.

Looks like Claremont, SMUS, Lambrick Parkand Oak Bay are the top four teams on the South Island. Not sure about the rest of the Island.

College was led by No. 4 (believe his name is Elijah Campbell-Axton) who was probably the best player overall on the entire weekend jamboree at SMUS. Certainly the best scorer.
