Who does the rankings and how do they matter? Do they determine the draw for tournaments during the year and at Provincials or are they just for fun, something to talk about?

The pre-season ranking appeared to have played a part in the draw for the Telus(HSBC) Classic, eg. Kelowna and VC on opposite side of bracket. Rankings may play a role in seeding come prov. championship time.

The rankings have absolutely nothing to do with tournament seeding, thats done by host team, but most draws are done where rankings are taken into consideration however ive been to many tournaments where the host team tries to fix the draw and put all the good teams on one side of the bracket. This always backfires and makes for a one sided final and teams wont come back.

The draw of the Telus Classic was out before the pre-season poll was.

PostSubject: New Rankings after a crazy week ??   Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:54 pm

It has been a crazy week of wins and losses for many teams. If the rankings come out today, this is it;

1. Kelowna - back on top with their full team. Great to see Goodin and Braxton playing well, and a nice start to the season by their young player Buzz. But they are a vulnerable team as they do not have much depth. Injuries or foul trouble can really hurt this team

2. Vancouver College - explosive guard tandem (Best in BC?) really cooled Pitt down in semis. Do they have what it takes in the front court to win in March ?

3. Pitt - with Matt and Trevor on the court, this team can beat anyone on any given day. But a lack of depth could hurt Pitt over the course of the season.

4. WRCA - young team gaining experience. If they are out on the run, they will be difficult to beat. Will they be able to control the ball and cut down on turnovers when it counts. Injury situation will get better in new year.

5. Mouat - similar with injuries and now will have full team back. Good outside game, good low presence. Do they have a true PG where they will compete against the top teams and their PG's Team to watch.

6. Fox - coach will learn that winning on the Island is a very difficult chore for any LM team. Lost big to Oak Bay in victoria this weekend and beating lesser teams by small margins. A team that nobody will want to match up with in a big game.

7. Kits - need to have strong outside game as teams will collapse on Luka. Dangerous team. Athletic. Do they have a true PG that will distribute.

8. Tamanawis - very competitive team and will surprise many. Don't underestimate this talented squad.

9. Walnut Grove - loss to unranked Mission pushes them down in rankings. Need to show consistency. Young team that is learning.

10. St.George's - athletic team with potential to beat anyone on any given day. Lack height in the low post but make up for it with quickness

Yes I am glad I don't have to do these standings week by week lol

MY GUESS:

1. Kelowna (won the Telus Tournament)
2. WJ Mouat (Won the Abby City Tournament)
3. Van College (2nd in Telus Tournament, beat Pitt)
4. Pitt Meadows
5. WRCA
6. Kitsilano
7. Oak Bay (beat Fox who was #1)
8. Terry Fox (lost to Oak bay & SMU)
9. St George's
10. Burnaby South

HM: Mt. Douglas, Walnut Grove (lost to Mission), Yale, Tupper, Byrne Creek, Tamanawis

Sounds like with the amount of AA teams beating or being very competitive with the top AAA teams, that this year could be kind of a gong show.

Remember that Mission is the #1 ranked "AA" team in BC.

Any news if Fox was healthy over the week end. I understand they lost to SMUS and Oak Bay.
It will be interesting to watch the rankings change weekly this season as the seems to be parity
between the teams.
I believe WJ Mout is undefeated so they should be #1. Kelowna looked great at times this past weekend, but lacks depth.
If Goodwin is not on and playing well, I don't see them being a top ten team.
I am surprised by St George's that Milan is their top offensive threat, way to go Milan.

My Picks
1. Mouat
2. Kelowna
3. VC
4. Pitt
5. Oak Bay (I am not familiar with this team, but they upset #1)
6. WRCA
7. Kits
8. St. George ( lost in OT to Kelowna)
9. Terry Fox
10. Walnut Grove (I am tempted to rank this team higher)

PostSubject: New Rankings ??   Sun Dec 18, 2011 3:05 pm

Well this week will be interesting as Mouat lost to 2 unranked teams in Maple Ridge and South Kamloops. I would assume both would have to be ranked, especially Maple Ridge. Where does Mouat drop to in the rankings ? HM ?

I rememeber back in the day the rankings were "top 15". I wonder why they went to "top 10". Top 15 would be much easier, especially this year with all the upsets happening.

Mouat should drop quite a bit.

I think South Kam should be ranked higher than Maple Ridge, They both beat Mouat and I think South Kam put up a better game against Pitt only losing by 19, while Maple Ridge lost by 25.

Moaut should drop in the rankings. But after saying that, they actually play very well, considering they were minus four starters and two other good bench players, for their hawk ball tourney. To say they are not a top team would be very stupid for their opponents. They actually held a 42 to 25 lead on south Kamloops before size did then in. At one point they had four players under 5’10” playing because of injuries! Just saying… scores do not always tell the real story!

I think South Kam should be ranked higher than Maple Ridge, They both beat Mouat and I think South Kam put up a better game against Pitt only losing by 19, while Maple Ridge lost by 25.

You may have dropped the dumbest post in hooplife history how does that matter a 6 point split in a 19-25 point loss and mouat might not have had tristan in since hes been out for a while and just coming back now ...

Is Tristan going to be back this year. With that serious a surgery i would have thought he was done for the year?
