Foothills vs Cardston
Harry Ainlay vs LCI

Ross Shep vs Magrath
Bert Church vs Raymond

My predictions

Ainlay vs Cardston (should be the game of the tourney)
Shep vs Raymond

Final
Ainlay vs Raymond

Ainlay wins

1st game Cardston 97 - Foothills 64.
was 44-40 at the half. Cardston played better in the 3rd, Foothills couldn't make a shot.

2nd game
Harry Ainlay 113 - LCI 104.
was tied after 3 quarters. best LCI performance I've seen in a long time. their guards shot the ball well for most of the game.

3rd game
Raymond 86 - Bert Church 64.
Not a very pretty game. both teams much weaker than I can ever remember from these two great programs.

4th game
Magrath 61 - Ross Sheppard 54.
disappointing to see a Shep team this weak being such a strong program for so long. hopefully they will get a lot stronger by the time March comes around.

I don't think Ross Shep will be a contender this year at all. They have been a top program for many years and every school has a couple down years. I don't know Edmonton well, but can't see Ross Shep playing in mid March this year.

Cardston vs. Ainlay will be a great game tomorrow. LCI played tough, but Ainlay had too many scoring options and were the better team. Whoever wins this game will easily win the final.

semi finals
Raymond 79 - Magrath 76. Raymond hit a 3 in the final seconds to win the game. both teams struggled to make open shots at times.
Harry Ainlay 82 - Cardston 62. Cardston had a slow start that put them behind double digits early. Ainlay looked good at both ends of the floor defended Cardston really well on perimeter and inside.
Tonights games probably won't be very close unless the favorites have poor games or the underdogs step it up with big performances.

Final score Ainlay 104 Raymond 70

Ainlay is a very good, very deep team. They go at least 8 deep without loosing anything.

Raymond kept it close for most of the first half until giving up a 10-0 run to end the half down 15. Ainlay had an amazing third quarter, scoring 36 points, and buried Raymond.

Raymond had no answer for Ainlays guards.

Ainlay was by far the best team in the tournament.

PostSubject: Happy new year!   Sat Dec 31, 2011 10:56 pm

Belated post and a happy new year all.

Sounds like Harry Ainley was the best at this tournament - the Titans poured a little salt on the wounded Comets who are still licking their wounds from the overtime loss in the provincial football final (although Raymond was in the final despite all the nay-sayers this season - new coaching, loss of Jimmy, etc!)

Can they do the same thing in basketball with their new coach this season? It'll be interesting to see if they can swap their cleats for high tops quick enough to have an impact this season (ironically, even with a much weaker team they'll still finish in the South's top 3!)

Did LCI just have a good game against HA or are they actually on track for a good season? Their only season game so far is against Winston Churchill (welcome back Bulldogs!) It has been awhile since the Rams have had much to brag about on the hardwood. Perhaps it's the year to resurrect their 'watermelon shorts'!

What's up with Magrath? Since when do they beat Ross Shep and nearly beat the comets?!

If this tournament is any indication, it sounds like Raymond, Cardston and Magrath will be fighting for second behind LCI, based on LCI's performance against the currently #1 Titans.

from what i've seen this season with south teams.
Cardston is clearly the top team in the south.
LCI and CCH will probably fight it out for the 2nd spot.
Raymond and Magrath won't be too far behind and challenge.
The south is tight this season with many of the programs being a litte down or young.
Cardston is clearly the top team. LCI and CCH don't match up well with Cardston's depth and size, as well nobody else in the south does this season. Many of the south teams are not very big and will struggle against the top schools that are too big inside for them this year.

From what I saw in this tournament, it's between Cardston and LCI in the south. LCI had a better game against Ainlay, but I think that is partly because the Titans overlooked them thinking about their second game against Cardston. Gibb was also unconscious from three point range. Cardston appears to be the more rounded team, but they didn't match up well against Ainlay.

As far as the north teams go, Ross Shep is obviously going to struggle this year, while Ainlay appears to be strong and well balanced. Both Cardston and Raymond focused on shutting down Annetts, but he still scored 25 or more in each game, and their offence didn't miss a step because they have lots of scorers. It will be interesting to see how they match up against the Calgary teams.
