We had a very competitive game with Walnut Grove today after getting down 10 early we came back to get a 38 to 36 half time lead. The thrid quarter was close as well but Grove really stepped up their defense in the 4th and forced us in to many turnovers to pull away 74 to 58. Jadon (23 pts) & Getz (22 pts) played solid while Monsanto did a good defensive job on Madewan who had 21 pts. Excited about our match-up with #1"AA" Windsor tomorrow.

The Tupper vs. Mouatt game might have been one of the ugliest games in history as neither team could score in the first half, I think Tupper had only 9 at half time and went on to lose 61 to 41

PostSubject: Day One wraps   Fri Jan 06, 2012 11:48 am

Not too many barn burners for games as the favorites all moved on without too much trouble. Look for things to tighten up today however starting with Tamanawis - Walnut Grove and followed by Kelowna - WRCA. I expect both games to be absolute battles and then tonight when the winners, though probably still the favorites to advance to the final, when they have to play thier second game of the day against Fox and Mouat, all bets are off.

Day one game wraps are up on my website

Kelowna beat WRCA by double digits today, it was a very close game until the fourth quarter when Goodwin just took over.

I haven't seen a team shut down Braxton like WRCA did today, but they just had no answer for Mitch and looked sloppy at the end of the game.

The same thing happened when they played Pitt during the telus classic.

Great to see some great b-ball action at the Beagle. Got to see Tammy/Grove game and a most of the Kelowna/WRCA game.

Today, Grove played very well. A little quicker and over-all better athleticism than Tammy. I say today because I think on any given day this game could have gone differently. Tammy looked a little slow today and just did not shoot the ball well. But, give Grove credit as they battled well, played quick and hit their shots. Grove is for real and deserved the win.

Kelowna / wrca was a good game. The final score was not indicative of the battle. Most of the game it seemed to be about a six to nine point spread for Kelowna. White Rock just did not shoot the ball well, missing layups and open looks. Goodwin dominated for Kelowna. When Goodwin was on the bench for a few minutes, Kelowna is just not as good a team. WRCA looked good with lots of hustle, but are young with a good number of Gr. 11's playing. Poorly timed turnovers and overall bad shooting hurt them today against the top team in the province.

Big win for the Griffins today as we beat the 'AA" #1 ranked Windsor Dukes 67 to 64. The game was close throughout with neither team getting ahead by more than 6 points. With :40 seconds to go we had a one point lead when Madewan hit a big three to put us ahead 66 to 62. Manshreck came back with an inside basket and then they fouled us with 18 seconds. We made one of two free throws to put us up 67 to 64 and Manshreck's three point attempt came up short at the buzzer. Madewan had 27 points and 5 assists and Chris Randing had 15 points while Manshreck played awesome for Windsor with 35 points.

PostSubject: Day Two wraps complete   Sat Jan 07, 2012 2:55 pm

I added wraps for yesterdays games - a great day of basketball and though a couple of the scores would indicte other wise, competitive games from start to finish.

I won't be making it out to Terry Fox today so if anyone can put out updates it would be appreciated.

Kits loses by 10 points to AA windsor without their big guy inside. Earlier this week they looked like contenders after an impressive win over white rock, but being blown out by kelowna (full roster) and now losing to windsor suggests otherwise. Maybe the big win was a fluke, maybe this team is just inconsistent.

WRCA was up on Tupper by as many as 18 in the second half, but only won by 7 or 8 to claim the consolation final.

The Kits big man was ejected from the game against Kelowna and I think he had to sit out a game but not sure why he played the next game against Tupper. I heard Kits had 8 or 9 players today against Windsor tough to play 3 games in 3 days with a short bench.

It looks good on Kit loosing at the Beagle as this team shows no class starting at the coach and finishes with a few parents who have the nerve to walk across the court during a game to complain....Lots of talent but as in the past years going no where

Not sure who came up with the all-star selections. Tupper wins one game and places 2 guys on the All star team??

I think Mitch Goodwin is the best PG in the province. I think at this tournment, Tyus Allen from White Rock was the 2nd best, followed by Jadon Cohee from Walnut Grove.

Mitch has the ability to make all those around him a better player. He can shoot, drive and dish some nice pases. Tyus is super quick and probably has the best ball handling skills I have seen. He can shoot and take it to the hoop. It looks like he gets a little too intense at times and will make a bad turnover or pickup a bad foul , but the kid is a fantastic guard. WRCA is not the same team when he is on the bench. Jadon loves to play and knows he has to score for Grove to compete. He has nice moves to the hoop but I'd like to see him work on his jumper. Great talent.

Best defensive player was Braxton.

Most fun team to watch playing is White Rock. They play a real team game and nobody moves the ball like they do. Tons of depth.

Most baffling team - Kits. This team has tonnes of talent, but are not getting the results yet at this point in the season. Tom Campbell is an underrated player.

Most hyped team - Tupper.

Hardest working team - Fox.

All Star team selections are often baffling and i didn't see all the games so can't comment. Are there player stats available from the tournament? I think Tupper won 2 games beating #3 ranked Tammy and #4 ranked Kits. I saw 2 Mouat games and Etienne was great, deserving of Top Defensive player honours and because Bunce was an all star they probably wanted to spread the awards around. Goodwin is a special player as is Cohee, from what I saw there is a lot of good young talent coming up the ranks. There will be a lot of movement in the AAA rankings this week with WRCA, Walnut grove and Tupper moving up and Tammy and Kits dropping. Kelowna is clearly the team to beat but the Valley teams are very strong too. Haven't seen VC yet but I don't see any real contenders from the Lower Mainland.

This season is up for grabs. Any of these top teams could win Provincials.

Kelowna is separating from the pack, but every game they play is close. They can be beat and if Mitch is off, or gets in any type of foul trouble, the Owls are in trouble.

Projected Top 10 as of today
1 Kelowna
2 Pitt
3 Vancouver College
4 Walnut Grove
5 WRCA
6 St. George's
7 Tupper
8 Mt. Douglas
9 Terry Fox
10 Tamanawis

Mouat has the talent and will soon be in Top 10.

Random thoughts,

-Kitsilano, biggest headcase team since last years Burnaby South(wake up coach)

-Mouat, top 3 talent but for whatever reason will find a way to lose.

-Fox, Guard weak...not a top 5 team because of this.

-Palmer, feel sorry for Madewan.

-Cory Hauck will be very good...Jadon Cohee is fantastic....2 grade tens on Kelowna good as well.

-Walnut Grove...easily gets most out of what they have...Kits opposite.

-Etienne, great defense but needs to score more.

-Love Tyus Allen's game

-bigtime tournament,small time concession selection.
