I was able to get out to a few games todayand have added some pictures to my albums at
Vancouver Sports News and Events
Would have liked to catch more teams as though I watched four game I only say Pitt, VC, Glen Eagle and Terry Fox.
I havent followed the junior scene too close but it looks like Glen Eagle was a pretty big underdog against Vancouver College in the final.
Well...College was fairly fortunate to escape with this win as GE had the ball and a chance to take the lead with less the 10 seconds remaining..their lay up lipped out and VC was able to control the rebound.
Then kind of a strange play iced this one for VC.
Glen Eagle fouled on the rebound and as VC was not in bonus, the ball was to be inbounded under the basket. the GE coach informed the ref that they were going to intentional foul. The ball was inbounded and the GE player went to foul the VC player but apparently "missed'.
VC started advancing the ball up the court and in desparation a GE player dove from behind at the VC player tripping him up. At this point a flagrant was called which effectively stopped GE from getting another possesion.
Was kind of strange to me as I have never seen a flagrant called in a "must foul" situation. I don't think it was neccesarily the wrong call, just a weird one given that the refs know the team is going to foul and basically, even "attempted fouls" are called.
Anyways, was a very good game with both teams truly leaving it on the floor and I imagine both these teams will have nice runs in their zones and then the provincials.
