Argyle is a lock pretty much to win the Howe Sounds but what is shocking is that the Howe Sound Division HAS 2 BIRTHS into the Provincials this year because their league has a total of 8 teams.

Where does the 2nd seed come from? From the Lower Mainland division. So there will be a very strong team (maybe 2) that won't be making the Provincial Tournament from the following:

Vancouver College
St. Georges Saints
Burnaby South Rebels
Kitsilano Blue Demons
Sir Charles Tupper Tigers
Byrne Creek Bulldogs

The Lower Mainland only receives 4 births instead of 5.

I could have seen this when the North Shore was strong with both Handsworth and Argyle but this season, it makes no sense. Carson is not deserving of a spot nor is Collingwood, which will probably make it, but will probably lose their first 2 and be out. The reason behind the 2nd birth is because of a higher team ratio then the Lower Mainland.

Bad news for BC Boys Basketball

it sucks but you can make the exact same argument about some northern teams. There are a bunch of new teams in AAA howe sound, the reason for this is so they can improve as programs. Both collingwood and windsor are AA in terms of number of people. As you said at one point howe sound was the league of two really good teams and im sure taht will happen again at some point again.

The North Shore actually has 9 teams and this gave them a larger ratio which gave them another berth. The Island is also up in teams so they will get three berths this year. Both the Mainland and the Valley each lose one berth. You also have to remember that our tournament is not the top 20 teams in BC but it is the top teams from each of the different regions. Many times some top teams don't get to go because their zone is very strong or does not have enough teams. Berths are based on number of schools only.

Hey Ebe, there's only 8 teams on the North Shore playing AAA...Standings as followed:

Argyle
Handsworth
Collingwood
Carson Graham
Windsor
Sutherland
West Vancouver
Sentinel

You forgot to include HOWE SOUND which is "AAA" They play in the "AA" league for reasons of competitiveness but they are "AAA" size. My understanding is they will be challenging North Shore #5 or #6 for a chance to get in the "AAA" North Shore playoffs.

So, the Valley only gets 7 and the Lower Mainland gets 4 ? That should make things a lot more interesting for the final berths in each zone.

Lower Mainland should be out of the following :

Kits
VC
St. Georges
Tupper
Burnaby South

So, 1 of these teams, at least 1, will not be going to provincials. Wow

The Valley is harder to predict, as the top is clear, but the lower teams are not

Yale
WRCA
Pitt

then who ?

Fox
Centenial
Fleetwood
Heritage Woods
Mouat
Walnut Grove
Delta

Those are all the teams listed in the latest rankings, but of those 7, only 4 will be going to provincials, unless someone upsets one of the top 3.

Should be a lot more intersting this year, as well as seeing who makes it out of the Okanogan from the 4 teams there.

Fine, add them in also, that just makes more teams that are fighting for the last 4 berths.

And yes, for all those that keep typing "birth", it is "berths", BERTHS, no one is being born here, so please stop typing births, for pete's sake

As for bbcoach22, either learn to spell or proof read before you send your post off, sheeesh

No matter the predictions and favourites the Valleys remain one of the toughest tournaments to get through to the Provincials. It remains to see if there will be any upsets.

Two births, for the Provincials, has been decided. Argyle and Carson Graham qualify for the Provincials. If Argyle wins the final game Friday night, they will receive a fairly high seed (Anywhere from 5 to 7). Probably too high but this is how the seeding works at the BCs. Carson will be seeded anywhere from 15 to 20...most likely 16 and playing on the first day of the Provincials. Good luck to both teams.
