Cause it is done by region size. So they take how many triple aaa schools and then break it down so thats why they get 7 berths

Here's a quote from "Sportvictoria" from a previous post regarding berths, explaining the process.

The automatic berth is a joke, they should figure out a way for them to earn it.... give those zones .5 berths each and make them play a "play in game"..... the valley has 7 of 43.... and most likely top 15 teams in the Valley are better then the "automatic berth" teams..... and this isn't even talking about the AA's Valley teams... and why does AA have 16 teams make provincials which is the same as A. They should make it AAA (24), AA (20), A (16).... more teams would result in more chances for kids to be exhibited for post secondary schools.

I think a 4-tier system would be better than larger tourneys. "4A", "3A"...

As far as berthing; For years the Island had four or five BC top 15 teams - and only got 3 berths... at the same time, the Valley had 7 berths and only 4 or 5 strong teams... same for the LM, 5 berths and only 2 or 3 good teams... for the past few years... everything has been reversed.

As it works out for this year, all the teams that make the BCs from the LM, Valley and Island will be good - no weak team in that group of 15.

Note that the Valley has only had an 8th berth for the last 3 years. Before that they had no more than 7.

They used ot have a 1/2 berth system when the event was 16-teams - but when they moved to a 20-team event they got rid of the 1/2 berth system. If you are in Prince Rupert you're looking at an 11-hour drive to get to Prince George for your challenge game - in some very bad weather.

Note - automatic berths go to areas that have less than the 'divisor' (berth per team average). So the HS gets and auto berth because they have 5 teams. NC has 3 teams - so they are in the same boat. But yes, in "AAA" you have two teams that are the only team in their zone. "AA" has 1 I believe has in this situation.

There is no prefect answer - but I'd love to see a 4-tier system with both the "4A" and "3A" going at the same time at the Langley Events/TWU centre. Then on the Saturday night - you'd have the "3A" final followed by the "4A" final. It would be an incredible week for a basketball fan.
