OK2 is either Southern Okanagan Secondary or Valleyview Secondary. They are playing a challenge game today or tomorrow.

PostSubject: Wildcard?   Mon Feb 27, 2012 2:43 am

Does anyone know about the Wildcard birth? I heard a few rumours that they might be giving a wildcard birth to a team this season?

Has anyone played the okanagon, kootenay, northwestern or central bc teams? Or heard anything about them? The only one I recognize is valleyview as they were ranked at times this year

I have heard nothing about those teams, hopefully they can play a bit. With such a great competitive Jr season it would be a shame to have a few teams make provincials who dont have the talent to compete.

It is really sad to see talented teams like mouat and Pitt not making the cut. They peaked at the right time and deserved to be in the bc's.

Yea I agree, making it out of the Fraser Valley as a top 3 seed is very difficult, look at the roads Mouat and Pitt had to take and only to fall a bit short. Mouat had to play the 1, 2,4 and 5 seed and finished 4th, I think Pitt played the 3rd, 6th, 7th, 5th seed. The fraser valley was as good as I can remember at the Jr level this year.

Although fraught with politics and difficulties seeding teams that haven't played many games with teams from other regions, I do think at-large berths are a good solution to this problem.

Yes there was a lot of parity this year. Next year will be interesting. On one hand you can fairly accurately predict who will be strong based on Grade 9 team and young Juniors (and to a degree the Grade 8's as well) but this seems to be the age where some kids 'take the next step' in their physical development that can change things - always fun to see.

I believe I've seen Princess Margaret play - hate to say but I'm a bit surprised they came out as OK champs, as they finished 6th in the Southridge tournament in December. Perhaps they improved a bit but they were fundamentally sound and well coached but don't think they'd beat Mouat, Pitt, Tamanawis, etc.

Based on number of schools FV should have 4 berths and VI only 2. But hey it is a Provincial tournament. Best of luck to all the schools who qualified.

I can tell you that Prince Rupert Sec. used to be the power from the North West, which included Charles Hays. PR's seniors were perennial AA powers; however, Prince Rupert Sec. is now a middle school and Charles Hays is the big high school in the area now. Not sure about the school's population. It will be an all grade 10 team, and their senior coach at least is a very well respected and knowledgeable coach, played in Europe and has a few AA titles under his belt. He was the senior coach at PRSS before it became PR Middle School.

The Princess Margaret team you saw in December was not all their best players. Their star guards were playing at the Vernon tournament, and won there. As for Valleyview, they lost to Princess Margaret in overtime and are a very tough, hard working team. The Kootenay team, Golden, where I'm from, is very up and down, but should be able to compete if they bring their A game.[/quote]

Ok that makes sense about Maggie, thanks for the clarification - as I said it was clear they were well coached but they didn't look like a team that would win the Okanagan.

As always, seeding should be interesting!

Seedings look about right. The top 5 are really tough, and see a VC and either Saints/Claremont Final, which would be a good one! Good luck to all teams

Two lower seeds who are VERY GOOD, and are able to make a deep run and upset some teams are MEI and New West,
