PostSubject: Off Season Noise   Fri May 04, 2012 3:13 am

An early congratulations may be in order for the 2nd place finishers at last years AAA Sr. Boys Provincials. Looks like there may be a new player joining their ranks come round the 2012-2013 campaign. I have heard that Cory H. from Mouat may be transferring out that way to play. Cory was the starting PG for Mouat last year that saw them finish 12th at the LEC. I believe he is going into grade 11. So his family must be looking to move into Walnut Groves catchment in order for this all to appear kosher.

What does this new acquisition mean for Walnut Groves chances at next years provincials?

Can anyone substantiate or reject this claim?

Remarkable.

Don't know if this rumour is true or not. Frankly, I don't care. Yet, a top player may be transferring (gasp!), but there are no allegations of recruiting, calls for boycotts or rejigging of league bylaws to exclude WC from competition. Those antics are reserved only for LM independent schools and players that may transfer there.

The silence from the usual instigators and accusers is telling indeed.

If it is true, then congratulations to Corey H for finding a situation that he believes better suits his talents. I doubt very much there was recruiting involved. Corey's family are dedicated to finding the best opportunity for their talented son. They are supportive, informed and involved. This is certainly not the case of a kid being led-astray or coerced by an overly-ambitious coach. I am confident that Corey's family researched the possibilities and took the best decision for their son - as they see it. Good luck Corey!

I thought there was an earlier thread on this transfer? One saying it was true then another denying it? Was it removed? Perhaps that is the reason why there is no "noise" it looks like an unsubstantiated rumour.
While Mark you have stated your position clearly that you think kids should be able to transfer at will and at any grade to a school that presents a better situation (and good on you for being up front) there remains rules in place that as parents/players/coaches/AD's etc should be respected. The tension is created when an attempt is made to bend or break rules that are clearly stated.
Until such time that the rules are followed or changed this tension will continue to exist between those of differing opinions and standards.

This will end this portion of the thread quickly. WG will be comprised soley of the returning seniors and upcoming juniors. Foolish gossip and makes absolutely no sense. The team already has a few established point guards. Stop putting out this nonsense.

Gleneagle struck again. They got two transfer last year from centennial Secondary and Heritage woods each. Now another transfer to their senior program Brenden Bailey from Byrne creek.

Wow, Brenden Bailey is a real good young PG, Gleneagle is now stacked with young talent with Denver Sparks-Guest, Grant Galbraith, Cordell Parker and now Bailey.

If these transfers had happened at private schools, say at saints, this forum must be ablaze rightnow with all kind of msgs. Somebody is smart. Denver is from centennial and Cordel Parker is from heritage woods.

More power to those kids and the coach at Gleneagles who must be perceived as doing a good job. From what I have seen, he is a class act and I think those kids have probably made an excellent choice in their pursuit of a great experience in the game they love.
You're absolutely right that it would be a whole different thing if it was a transfer to VC, Saints or WRCA. Oh well.

Wow. Next time all the posters start complaining about VC and Saints I will copy and paste this thread to that discussion. Where are they now? The hypocrisy is incredible.

Congratulations to Gleneagles! Death to Saints and VC? Rolling Eyes

While I am not familiar with the exact situation at Gleneagle I do know geography and somewhat familiar with the BCHSS rules. Based on that I would offer the following observations. The first two players looks like they switched in their grade 9 year to a school that is close to both of the other schools. Too bad that this happens at all but when schools are located in such close proximity it is more likely to happen. Now in the case of the last transfer mentioned, Burnaby and Coquitlam are not exactly a stones throw away, so it certainly would appear to be an actual move by the parents. If it is not then it should be investigated and the BCSS rules enforced.

PostSubject: Transfers @ Gleneagle   Mon Jun 18, 2012 1:43 am

Lots of talk about the point guard that is coming to Gleneagle from Byrne Creek and the other transfers that happened this past season. Here's the end game:

1. Denver came from Centennial but lives in the Gleneagle catchment area. Went to a Gleneagle feeder middle school. He came to Gleneagle in grade 10 because it became a better fit for him. Many members of the Gleneagle junior team have played together outside of high school in various sports and know one another well.

2. The player from Heritage Woods is a very similar situation to Denver. He lives in the Gleneagle catchment area. He came to Gleneagle this year because of the many friends he had at Gleneagle.

Regarding the BCHSS mandate, this year there was some leniency around the rule of grade 9 being the year in which a player's home school was defined. Before this ruling in the spring of 2011, grade 10 was the year. As for the young man moving into Gleneagle from Byrne Creek, his status on playing will be left up to the ruling body at BCHSS.

Gleneagle is a young school and since the 2005-2006 season has achieved success through hard working student athletes who don't take shortcuts and a coaching staff that prides itself on integrity and doing the right thing.

It's also important to note that the coaches at Heritage Woods, Gleneagle and Byrne Creek all respect one another and have worked together outside of high school basketball.

The rules are clear - one year wait. Can't be perceived as recruiting for basketball. This is the exact reason they brought in the rule.

Bailey can play right away as long as he moves into the Gleneagle catchment area (or pulls a Manroop and uses a different address)

D12.3.3 Change Of Principal Residence: the student-athlete and his or her
parent(s) or legal guardian(s) [See Definitions] have changed their
principal residence in the previous twelve (12) months. The change
of residence must not be for the purpose of making the studentathlete
eligible for restricted competition at a member school. The
student-athlete does not become eligible under this category until
the member school submits to BCSS a statutory declaration by
the parent or legal guardian in a form acceptable to the Executive
Director which attests to the details and reason for the change of
residence.
(b) Move into a Different Public School District: if the parents' or legal
guardians' new principal residence is in a different public school
district, the student-athlete will be eligible at any public school in
the new district in accordance with school district policy concerning
student-athlete placements, or will be eligible at any non-public
school whose main school building is located within the geographical
boundaries of the new public school district (An Online Transfer Form must
be completed online with the registration of the student-athlete on the online Student-Athlete
Registration Form. In addition, a Statutory Declaration Form must be forwarded to the BCSS
office within seven (7) school days of the online registration)

Reg's seem pretty clear that if it is a legitimate moved from one district to another then a player is eligible. Only time it becomes sketchy is when the move is in "spirit" rather then reality.

CoachMike and Walnut Fan,

Hypothetically, say Corey's house was for sale (which it is), and say he moves into the Walnut Grove catchment area, attends Walnut Grove, and plays basketball there. To what extent would you two be willing to completely admit you were wrong.

And if that happens, to what extent were you involved in trying to put out a possible fire? Or perhaps the team in which you thought would be loyal to the boys there, actually was involved in getting him to transfer, thus leaving you completely out of the loop. Not so loyal.

Now it is clear why Pay Lee has decided not to be the "head coach" (or whatever that was last year) for the upcoming season. I wonder how the parents at Mouat feel about all this.

JC

To stop the rumors..... this is Corey's Dad. First of all, our house is not currently for sale. We will let you all know if we ever list it, incase you are interested. We have NEVER been aproached by Walnut Grove EVER! We have NEVER aproached Walnut Grove EVER! Corey and Jadon are friends and play club ball together, thus, we, as parents, are also friends. Sorry if this disappoints you, the rumors need to stop. Corey is going to Mouat... if this EVER changes, we will let everyone know. If we ever decide, as a family, to move, it would not be a basketball transfer, academics come first. Additionally, our daughter also plays basketball and there is no way that we would remove her from Mouat's Basketball Program. End of story and good luck to all this next season! And the Pat Lee comment??? You are kidding me right?

Looks like Jauquinn Bennet-Boire has made it official that he is not returning to Yale next season.
Hope Quin all the best, he gave Yale 2 years of excellence on the court, a great young guard who helped lead Yale into the Sr. AAA Provincials as a 9th and 10th grader, hope the best is yet ahead for him.

via Twitter:
Bennett-Boire ‏@LifeIsBall25 : Saying this officially! Going to Prep school in Kansas next year Smile Cant wait to get down there and get to work!
