How important is this for incoming grade 9s? Does this put them on national radar, or is it more geared to grade 11/12 kids?

Also, how well attended has this been in the past?

Thanks

The event allows players of all grades to compete against other high level players. An evaluation of the event will land on the desks of close to 200 US colleges and universities as well as CIS and CCAA schools. While US schools are restricted as to when they can contact a potential player directly, they begin tracking potential targets beginning in their grade 9/Freshman year of High School.

To put it in context, this years grade 9s will be the players replacing this years college freshmen when they graduate.

As for media, event reports are posted in the US on hoopreview.net and was posted in Canada last year on Basketballbuzz.ca

Last year we had approximately 120 players participate, which has made the move to the larger LEC facility a requirement.

I hope this answers your questions.

Frosh – Soph Division

Top Prospects: (*indicates highest consideration for this category)

*6'2" SG/PG Taylor Browne of Holy Cross HS 2015
Browne was one of the standouts in the younger division (even though he was dealing with a back injury). He is an athletic combo guard with a solid handle. He is effective making plays in transition (can finish) and pulls up well. He shoots it ok with 3-point range and can finish on the drive very well. He is active on defense and can guard the ball.

5'7" PG Wei Chung of Walnut Grove HS 2016
Chung is a consistent performer who made his mark in this event. He's a good ball handler and passer who does see the floor in transition. He does nice job pulling up on the break. He shoots it ok with 3 range, is an effective penetrator and a capable defender. Chung does impact the game.

5'8" PG/SG Randy Johal of Tamanawis HS 2016
Johal is a solid ball handler and passer who plays both guard spots. He can pull up in the half court and is an ok driver/penetrator with a nice hesitation move. He can shoot it fairly well with range to 3 and has a decent floater. Johal needs to get stonger-has some trouble with bigger guards.

5'11" PG/SF Mc Coy Lum of Vancouver College HS 2015
Lum was one of the more competitive players in the event and he has a nice all-around skill set. He handles it well and is a real good passer. He is effective in transition and sees the floor. He pulls up well half court. Lum is a solid driver/penetrator with an ok first step. He can shoot it ok, has a nice floater and is a capable defender and rebounder. He is a bonafide competitor who makes a lot of things happen. Good guy to have on your team!

5'9" PG Corky Smith of Byrne Creek HS 2016
Smith is an athletic one man who can handle it and is a real nice passer. He sees the floor well in transition and pushes the break hard. He is a good driver with a nice hesitation move who can finish with some explosiveness. His decision-making is a little suspect at times. Smith is very coachable.
