I guess my only question would then be are we getting what we expect or expecting what we get? If we want it to be more don't we have to do things differently to get different results?

To me, we are getting what we expect- yes, we have to do more, but there aren't enough quality coaches here to do more, or want to do more. Basketball takes a back seat to football and hockey in this region- and in some cases, it's the same coach.
so, it really needs to start in Mini-Bantam- teach the girls/boys how to play properly, which would make up for "lack of natural talent"? then by the time they hit grade 7-8 and ready for high school, they have all the nessessary "knowledege". But when you have a girl that can score-30-40 pts a game, she's not being tought proper defence, or how to box out, or or or....it's just about offence, and that comes back to bite in the end in alot of cases, because BNB will not look at you sideways if you can't play defence, in most cases....not all, but most. So, what you need is total revamp of your program, deal with losing by 60 pts night in and night out, to properly "teach" and "coach", but when you can't afford for a player to walk out, or not come back because they are not dedicated, and there is not another to "step" in her place, you get what you expected.

1. KVHS - Seem to have FHS's number at this point.
2. FHS - Definitely potential to win it all but seem to struggle on offense in stretches and want to play with a small margin for error.
3. BMHS - Solidly in at #3 but need to beat 1-2 to move on up.
4. Sussex - Solid showing so far but need to beat more top teams.
5. Riverivew - Seem to have hit a wall are struggling to be consistent.
6. LHHS - Couple of big wins over WHS have them here but they need to beat someone else to move up.
7. WHS - Next best team in AAA need to score more consistently to move up.
8. RHS - Top AA team until someone takes them down.
9. SVHS - Hitting on all cylinders but need to take on some top 10 teams to move up or solidify.
10. TRHS - Better then this ranking but hurting right now and need to get healthy at the right time to get back on track.

PostSubject: Big Shake UP   Sun Dec 30, 2012 9:33 pm

Going to shake up the top 10. Not sure how much is the Turkey, how much was the schedule and how much is for real but Thunder Classic moves some things around for now on the list.

1 - KVHS: Someone beat them then we'll talk.
2 - WHS: Beat Sussex in final, Beat FHS by 30???? This seems really high but you beat the previous #2 by thirty so here ya go for now.
3 - BMHS: I would really like to see them playing KVHS, Sussex, Fredericton etc.
4 - Sussex: Finished 2nd at TVC
5 - Fredericton: Big drop but you lost to someone by 30 and only gave up 60. The continuous offensive production issues on a team with that many high calibre players is baffling.
6 - LHHS - Playing all these teams tough and getting better. Sleeper pick maybe in very tough south west regional.
7 - Riverview - No fault of their own here but they need beat someone above them again to move up.
8 - Rothesay - Best team in AA until beaten.
9 - Tantramar - Back up after SVHS results at TVC. Not healthy but beat CNHS by 20.
10 - CNHS/SVHS - SVHS has the league win but lost twice at TVC.

NOt many changes based on results from this week I've seen

1 - KVHS - Still need to lose to someone.
2 - WHS - Didn't look dominant like the did in the win over FHS last week but took care of buisness.
3 - BMHS - Dominated Rothesay to show the gap between AA and the top of AAA.
4 - Sussex - Tough out for anyone, this might be high but they keep getting better.
5 - FHS - Way to low but they need to fins some answers on offense.
6 - Riverview - Back to winning ways out of province but need to take down some of these teams.
7 - LHHS - Getting better their position going into southwest regional in Feb will be huge.
8 - Rothesay - Still need to lose to a AA team before you have them lower.
9 - SVHS - Erratic play but played WHS really tough and have some nice pieces.
10 - HTHS - Finished 2nd at potato barrell. ACtually beat SVHS on way to final. But it was close and they have loses early to Tantramar. Getting better though.

Outside looking in: Tantramar and John Caldwell both dealing with injuries that limit performance. Then probably CNHS.

We missed placed a file folder with game sheets. We're slowing piecing together the info and should have the results posted soon. For a teaser...you'll probably be revising your top 10 girls.

USing pieced together riverboat results and other info here is my best shot this week:

1 - Fredericton High School - You won the Riverboat, you've got legit talent. I have no idea who you are night in and night out but for now sure.
2 - BMHS - Keep winning though its tough to compare since they are playing a lot out of province. They beat Rothesay by 33 over the break though so that looks similar to what FHS did to them in the Riverboat final.
3 - KVHS - One loss particularly in a rivalry game probably shouldn't make this big a difference but when you lose to a team that someone else crushes its bound to stir thigns up. Last time I put them lower then they thought on the polls they got some big wins and I got texts hearing about it, so feel free to prove me wrong again.
4 - WHS - Speaking of who the heck are you? Some nights you beat Fredericton, some nights you lose to SVHS? Are you higher? Are you lower?
5 - Sussex - Play all these teams tough but need to consistently beat a couple of these teams at crunch time.
6 - Rothesay - Won a big game to move them up. Could they be better than this, maybe? Need to see them play some of these teams more often to tell.
7 - Riverview - Lots of talent, can't seem to grind out tough wins yet in Province.
8- LHHS - Working hard just not there yet.
9 - SVHS - You beat Woodstock, you've beaten and lost to CNHS a couple of times. Probably have the talent to be higher but need some more quality wins to show it.
10 - HTHS - PUt them here last week haven't got a better candidate yet.

Bubble: Tantramar, JCS: Both really quality teams but have been hurt too often this year. Need to put it together by playoff time.

KVHS handles Sussex
Woodstock loses to FHS by 1 pt.
BMHS easily beats Riverivew.

Is this AAA starting to round into form or more of the wacky night night out we've seen all season? Can't wait to see what happens at the Dairy Town.

1 -Fredericton - Still on top though your inconsistency is maddening.
2 - BMHS - Need to beat FHS/KV in the near future to even consider a move up.
3 - KVHS - Loss to Rothesay looks worse this week, but two easy league wins show you back to form.
4 - WHS - Keep playing FHS tough.
5 - Sussex - Next and possibly most consistent.
6 - SVHS - Big week with wins over WHS and Rothesay.
7 - Rothesay - First loss to AA team hurts but not a huge amount.
8- HTHS - You beat Riverview in a huge league win for a building program. Good Work!
9 - Riverview - Seem to have hit some sort of wall. Need to right the ship in hurry.
10 - LHHS - Some one needs the short end.

First 3 are probably ok. DTC may help some.
Don't think Riverview s this low.

I don't think Riverview should be that low either, but they haven't beaten anyone adead of them since Nov/ early Dec. Teams ahead of them either beat them or beat teams that beat them.

Very little movement in the top 10 this week of exams. Few games and no real big ones.

1. Fredericton
2. BMHS
3. KVHS - Re-established themselves over Rothesay with 25+ point win.
4. WHS
5. Sussex
6. SVHS
7. Rothesay
8. HTHS
9. Riverview
10. LHHS

1 - FHS. Still on top need to get taken out by someone again to get moved, but not a lot of room between number one and moving way down the list.
2- Sussex - Big move up to #2. Home court pays off with a bunch of tough wins for a young squad getting better every time out.
3- KVHS- Took care of buisness against BMHS twice but a tough loss to Summerside keeps them out of the finals with Sussex. Big wins followed by tough losses isn't a great MO for 3 weekends of playoff basketball.
4 - BMHS - Struggled against KVHS but can compete with the top dogs.
5 - WHS - Can't seem to find the consistency to be a top contender every week but dangerous team.
6 - SVHS - Still undefeated in league play and the rematch with Rothesay will determine a lot playoff wise and where this team is at.
7 - Rothesay - Still playing top AAA teams tough but still 2nd in their conference.
8 - HTHS
9 - Riverview
10 - LHHS

Last top 10 of the year with everything shaken out into place.

1. FHS - LIved up to the hype just too many weapons at too many positions. Laura Kaye might be the the best basketball players in the province that no one talks about. PLus they've got about 6+ more that people do talk about.

2.BMHS - Had lots of good pieces and players. No real problems here just not the 2nd best team in NB this year.

3. KVHS - Great basketball team with what it took to be #1 but just too inconsistent in big moments. They'll be senior deep and hungry next year.

4. Riverview - Up and down all year. Showed their pedigree late. Definitely a top 4 team this year and in years to come.

5. LHHS - As expected got better as the year went on and won big games when it counted.

6. WHS - PLayed people tough all year, but inconsistent on offense vs top teams.

7. Sussex - Great young squad showed quality as year when on, in the SW someone had to go down early though.

8. RHS - As with most of the list inconsistency was the name of the game, but only lost one AA game all year and played with or beat a number of people in the top 10.

9. HTHS - Showed grit and toughness down the stretch. League win over RHS is a huge move in the right direction for this program.

10. SVHS - Played RHS tough 2 of 3 times they played winning one. Took down WHS. Scrappy tough. Great year for their program too.

Predictions were pretty much bang on. As far as top teams for next season FHS, Woodstock,Sussex and KVHS will be in the mix. Unless KV makes some changes on the bench they will struggle to win the big game. Too high of pedigrees making decisions from the other side of the scorers table for them to compete in current situation at the AAA level.

KVHS has made a change in coaches at the varsity girls level. It will be insteresting to see if this makes the difference. They have the top athletes but also had them last year and were not succcesful. Should be an interesting fall/winter!

Changes at KV with Moira Gagnon taking on head coaching duties, similarly Kevin Daley taking over from Cotter with NBIAA champs at FHS; Coaches returning at BMHS; Woodstock will likely be stable but hear they will play AA, watch out for them if they do; Leo Hayes will likely return Paul Daley Predictions please? Mine is FHS vs BMHS at Harbour Station

So the NBIAA girls coaching news/rumours is the biggest so far this summer:

KVHS gets Moira Gagnon from Rothesay.
Daley taking over Fredericton.
Dana Lawrence to coach Woodstock as they drop back to AA after 6 years playing up.
Coach Brain not back to SVHS next year.
Rothesay SVHS will both have new head coaches.

Here is my top 10 girls teams for 2013/14. May be way off on a few but here goes:

1. KVHS- if they can't win a title this year they may never win one.
2. BMHS- good heads on the bench and lots of returning impact players
3. FHS- will compete as always
4. Sussex- youth gets a year older
5. WHS- should stay in AAA as I think they could compete to get to HS at the AAA level
6. Riverview- youth gets a year older
7. JMH- if everyone comes out they will be competitive
8. RHS- lots of good young talent. Will depend on who is calling shots on the sideline
9-10- not sure- SV, CNHS, SJHS, MHS?

Interesting picks. KVHS does have the horses but need to put it all together as you say. Most of the rest of the list is pretty standard fair. LHHS should probably be there some where. Other then WHS who is playing AA (I believe that is why the coaching move is taking place) most of the AAA teams on the list can be moved about pretty interchangeably. JMH is a wild card as there is lots of talent/athleticism in the building but too many questions and multi sport athletes for me to put them up that high. RHS because of player transfers last year from the JV (who folded half way through the season) and no grade 11's will have 5 or 6 very good basketball players and not a lot of depth.

AA is a bit of a craps shoot. WHS and RHS would have to be early favorites but CNHS, FHS and TRHS will all be pretty good too as they return most of their teams. SVHS and SSHS still return a top player or two each. The NE is a bit weaker other then TRHS with Bathurst probably bing the next best team. REgardless with WHS in AA there will probably be 2-3 teams from AA in the top 10 next year.

In "A" I don't know if teams like Caldwell, Caledonia and DPCS have enough to be considered top 10 teams but they are closer then a lot of middle of the pack AAA squads.

Dave is stepping away from the boys program to coach his girls who are coming through the Mini system. He is being replaced by Stacey Atkinson. Stacey was involved with the boys program when Donnie Walker was coaching and has coached the junior boys in the past. Stacey is a very knowledgeable coach who will get the best out of his boys. The team will be very young, they have a core group of kids in grades 9 and 10 that will be forced to play varsity next year. They only have three returning players and only have about 6 senior aged kids that are playing basketball. Half of their team will be made up of junior players. They do have some talent in the grade 9's and 10's,. they will struggle for two years, but I see the program starting to bounce back in two years and make a decent run. A few players to keep an eye on.
Thomas MacMichael- Grade 9 (6'1)
Bailey Dominie- Grade 10 (6'3)
Allister Nicholson- Grade 10
Kyle Moore- Grade 10
Josh MacFarlane- Grade 9 ( 6'4)
James Thibault- grade 9
Jesse Thibault- grade 9
Eric Mehan- Grade 9 ( 6'1)

Like I said St Stephen boys basketball will be a developing team for two years, but they will bounce back after that. The middle school program has been decent the last few years. These boys are good enough to pull some upsets as long as they can match the physical play of guys two years older.
