Any thoughts on THE TOP TEN GIRLS teams sir Charles?

I was responding to someone who already posted in this forum. What are you the Hooplife Police? So sorry officer, but maybe you could venture off the island once in awhile. That way you wouldn't have so much time on your hands and wouldn't spend your days worrying about everyone else on a public basketball forum.

PostSubject: top 10 girls 2013 14   Tue Jun 11, 2013 2:13 pm

1.FHS- back to back championships- they will be biggest team in NB and will inherit several jv players who went undefeated ? will be can anyone replace Cotter/can Katie Daley return from 2nd acl tear; will be deep
2, KVHS- can Gagnon step up to AAA team that has lots of depth but again no size; will need solid asst coach (Nicholson?)
3 BMHS- good heads on the bench and lots of returning impact players but will miss senior leadership, guard play will be key
4. Leo Hayes- will have talent , consistent coaching is always their issue, size??
5 Sussex- youth gets a year older, solid coaching
6. Riverview- youth gets a year older, coaching will be key, have some very talented players
7 WHS- agree, should stay in AAA as I think they could compete, toughest gym to play in is WHS
8. RHS- lots of good young talent. Will depend on who is calling shots on the sideline and how deep
9. Moncton High- time to get back to being competitive
10- ?? can anyone in STJ pull a program together? Bill Mayberry?

PostSubject: Top 10 Girls   Tue Jun 11, 2013 9:36 pm

I think you have to put the Fundy Girls in the top 10 for 2014. There JV team was 29-1 this year with wins over:

KV JV-- AAA
strong HarbourView JV -- AAA
Rothesay JV

as well as victories over many A and AA varsity teams.

Taylor Cooke will have spent the summer on the U15 provincial team and will be ready to be a force at the varsity level and they have the best three point shooters in girls basketball in the province in the Fudge twins. This group of girls won the bantam AA provincial championship in 2012.

PostSubject: Saint John Team in Top 10   Tue Jun 11, 2013 9:44 pm

The two wildcards for a Saint John team making the top 10 are as follows:

1) Harbourview -- Very strong JV team last year and the impact players were mostly grade 9. If they allow these girls to move up to Varsity and they mature during the year then Saint John may get back on the map.

2) Saint John High -- A bunch of the girls are playing Millrat Elite this summer. They have two JV girls who are involved in the provincial team /development stream this summer. If they sacrifice their JV team and move everyone up to varsity, they may have enough critical mass to finally put Saint John back on the map for girls basketball.

Unfortunately St. Machs and Simonds are not going to get there in the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Fundy will most likely benifit from adding 2-3+ very good young players again to our varisty roster which was very young this year (assuming numbers on JV don't become a problem). The varsity returns all 5 starters and 9 of 11 players so that is probably going to be a contributing factor to any success we have next year too.

While very proud of the accomplishments our Junior Girls made this year (despite not being allowed to play in a league) we do recognize that top AA teams like Tantramar/Woodstock had thier best 9th graders already playing varsity and that the loss was too a very good Carleton North JV squad that also doesn't lose many players at a varsity level. Obviously we expect to be  competitive next year in what should be a very balanced AA league.

As I stated in a previous post I think the top 10 next year will be made up of at least 3 AA schools which ones improve over the summer and put it all together next winter will be the determining factor.
