Boys A rankings
1. Hartland
2. Harvey
3. Grand Manan (if healthy)
Nothing else matters

Girls A Rankings
1. John Caldwell - still a step above everyone when they are healthy. Not sure how serious the injuries are, but not moving them down yet
2. Petitcodiac - have beat Caledonia twice in league play and should be hosting a regional
3. Caledonia - top three teams have separated themselves from everyone else
4. Stanley - beat Dalhousie easily this week. Should be third in the northeast, which may be the stronger region at the top this year.
5. Harvey - first in the south right now, at least until they play Grand Manan again
6. Grand Manan - seem to be playing well now, but not going to rank them ahead of Harvey until they beat them in a league game. This game must be coming up soon?
7. Devon Park - young team that is improving. Beat Grand Manan last weekend, but has close losses to Stanley and Harvey.
8. Dalhousie - tough, well-coached team

Actually Caledonia beat Petitcodiac in their first league game, only by 1 point, but still a win. Caledonia has also had an injured player since last weekend and still beat John Caldwell.

I'm not going to punish a team for injuries....when healthy, JC has handled Caledonia.
I think Petitcodiac is a dangerous team....

'A' Boys

1. Hartland
2. Harvey
3. McAdam
4. Grand Manan
5. Caledonia

It seems like a Hartland/Harvey final....but, McAdam might have a say...we'll see.

Guess I'll edit the boys after Harvey trashed McAdam by 35...

1. Hartland
2. Harvey
3. Grand Manan
4. McAdam
5. Caledonia

With Grand Manan defeating Campobello tonight...looks like the first Q-final in the SW is set with Hartland vs. Campobello...I believe that is correct.

I would put money on the second q-final being Dp vs McAdam.

Who would be number 3 and 4 from the West in "A" boys? Western conference "A" girls, 2,3,4? Looks like Devon boys will face Harvey, Grand M, or McAdam in boys for first round play. "A" girls in the South still waiting to see who will go 1,2? Harvey or Grand M. Lots to be decided in the next two weeks.

Campo could still mathematically slide into 3rd place in the last game of their season in Campo vs McAdam if McAdam loses their final games against Grand Manan and Harvey......as we know funny things tend to happen in Campo......

Mathematically I guess...they would have to win by 28....I have a better chance to be drafted in the NBA draft...Campobello couldn't beat their grandmothers by 28.

The first half of the season is almost over, what are your predictions now based on games that have occured?

Southern vic has really stepped their game up! they won the Sugarloaf tournament, then played Sugarloaf at home this weekend and beat them 102-69. If they stay intense, they might do something.

Petit girls beat Caledonia in Petit on Tuesday night. Since there will be no North East Regional and assuming that both teams win out this will give Petit first in the NE and the right to host the sectionals. This would mean that Caledonia would probably travel to a sectional hosted by JCHS for a burn burner final there.

I think the results in Caledonia last weekend and in Petit on Tuesday make this the probable top three in Single A right now:

1) Petitcodiac
2) Caledonia
3) JCHS

JCS will easily beat Caledonia at sectionals on home court with their full squad. This will result in JCS and Petticodiac at provincials which JCS will end up pulling off the win. JCS has too deep a bench to be defeated. This will be the game to watch.

For what the rumours I have heard, JCS will not be a full squad heading for playoffs. They are deep but ... I think JCS can't think about Caledonia before having to play Grand Manan, Harvey, Devon Park. In a one game playoff, anybody can beat anybody. Peti will be hard to beat as they are playing good at the right moment.

There may be a sectionals preview so we may get to see how accurate your predictions are, Sidebyside. I believe that Caledonia is one of the teams who will be at the John Caldwell Tournament. Not sure what weekend that is though.

The talk of sectionals and tournaments is a bit confusing here. Just to clarify, the first weekend of playoffs for the A girls is the weekend of Feb 8th. This will be at John Caldwell where the top 4 from the west will cross over with the top 4 from the south.....Caledonia will not be there. I am presuming the talk of a pre-playoff meeting comes from the tournament that JC is hosting as a regular season tune- up session. If I understand correctly, the North and the East do not have enough teams for this first playoff round(regionals) and they will be seeded from their crossover schedules. If I am seeing things right, they will be 1st-Peti, 2nd- Caledonia, 3rd-Stanley and 4th- Dalhousie. As far as the Regional tournament in Caldwell goes, if things stay the same as they are right now, the first round matchups will be JC vs McAdam, DP vs Campobello, TV vs GM, and Cantebury vs Harvey, with the winners of these four games moving on to the next weekend. There are a couple of league games left to be played which could shuffle things around a bit, but I am pretty sure JC, DP, GM and Harvey will be crossing over with the 4 from the NE..........but then again, you never know, that's why they play the game.

It seems like the health of John Caldwell will be the deciding factor in who gets to the Final 12 this year. JCS may be strong enough to hold off GM, Harvey, and Devon Park in the regionals and earn the right to host sectionals, but dealing with Canterbury in sectionals will be tough at less than full strength. The JCS tournament is the weekend of Feb 2, the weekend before the south-west regional will be played. Caledona and Petitcodiac will also play this weekend at Caledonia's tournament. It won't affect the standings, but should be interesting as they have played some close games already.

I like Caldonia/JCS as the provincial champs in A girls. Petti is a very good team, but use a lot of tactics defensively and are very repetitive and disciplined on offense. I feel like Caledonia and JCS have a deeper glut of skilled kids and better athletes. With a week to talk about how to attack 2-2-1 pressure and 2-3 zone and what they are going to do to defend a Ball screen, I think they can both get it done.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe they are the one's who can throw in the wrinkle the makes the difference. I'm not convinced though.
