Edmonton Metro/Public Top 10 - Unofficial Coach/Fan Poll - Preseason Rankings for 4A Girls

1 Ainlay
2 Spruce Grove
3 Facey
4 ABJ
5 O'leary
6 Paul Kane
7 Scona
8 St FX
9 Jasper Place
10 Ross Shep

Editors Note! The best Girls Team in the Edmonton area that would probably get the most votes but they are a 3A school (St. Albert)

I would agree with many of those top rankings - Ainley will be very solid with a great group of young players (couple provincial players @ u17/u16/u15 level) along with some talented returnees. Spruce Grove will have a very solid starting 5, with a young bench - however with good coaching they will be tough in March. Bev Facey returns all but 1 player which makes them an immediate threat - health of some key players could be a concern. ABJ lost a couple key players but also return very dependable players that have size and some shooting ability. They will be tough. PK will be scrappy and young - but talented. They have a new coach who definitely knows her stuff but will have to adjust (which she will) to the level of basketball and the quality of teams every game.
So top 5 (Metro/Public) - Ainley, SG, BF, ABJ, PK

Next level would include O'Leary - they are always tough the minute they put on the uniform. FX - some solid players returning and got one of the best grade 10's in the province. Scona lost their big last year (Panda VB) and she kept them in a lot of games. JP didn't have a lot in spring league but that is always hard to tell who is playing / whether they're missing players etc.

As for 3A - we return only 3 players (albeit they are quite good), with a very good junior player moving up. After that we are going to be all grade 10's (probably 5 or so) so we will have talent but will also make young mistakes. We hope to be solid in the second half of the season. Edmonton Christian should be solid again this year as they return 8 players and have had a good junior team.

Looking at your Calgary rankings, surprised Centennial is so high with losing as many players as they did, must have some good jv's coming up???
Thought St.Marys would be right up there with their good little point guard and many returning players.
How many did Winston and BOB return?

Edmonton public/ metro top rankings from another view - all teams:

1. St. Albert - too many good players not to be #1 plus good coaching.
2. Ainley- good nucleus and a coach who knows how to pull talent together.
3. Bev Facey- they have a full returning team- huge asset - experience is key.
4. Spruce Grove- great 5, and a coach who is committed to win.
5. O'Leary- a very good core of girls and they play very hard- upset team.
6. Scona- their program will be strong as their point guard- good potential.
7. PK- the will play hard and have upset potential - interesting team this year.
8. ABJ- they will play tough but lack scoring- top scorer from last year graduated.
9. FX- good athletes and will be better in the second half.
10. Ross Shepard/ JP- will be fighting for top ten and will challenge the above teams in the second half.

Just one fans opinion........
