PostSubject: Early games?   Thu Nov 01, 2012 11:08 pm

The NBIAA hasn't posted the team schedules on the website yet, just kinda wondering what interesting matchups are going on the the first couple of weekends. I know the GM girls have a game with Peti on the 10th, then games with Dalhousie and St Stephen at a tournament on the next weekend. St Stephen could end up playing Fundy at that same tournament. These should all be good games. Any body else have knowledge of any early scheduled games to watch out for?

Harvey travels to Belleisle on Nov.9th. This game should determine if Belleisle will be in the hunt this year!

I wouldn't be quick to determine anything from a game like this. Pre-season brings alot of line juggling, getting everyone involved, see who fits where, etc. Belleisle will be in the hunt along with a cluster of teams as the season goes along. Good opening game though for Belleisle at home.

Harvey looked dominant while moving the ball and played their bench for much of the game , looks like a deep team this year.

The 207 game winning streak is over for the FHS JV black kats with a 80-73 loss to Simonds High, a streak that has lasted since the provincial championship against Riverview High in 2005. Wow

GM girls beat Petti.

Anyone got scores from the rest of the tourney in Harvey or Harrison Trimble?

No surprise. These guys beat Fredericton 2 years ago in Bantam pretty consistently. Is Julian playing JV or Varsity?

RHS Varsity boys beat HTHS 82-49 or somewheres around there.

Fundy JV Girls defeated both St. Stephen and JMA JV girls by 50+ points in two games today. This is a great team in the making. (Essentially the bantam girls provincial AA champions last year) Stay tuned as these girls move up through the ranks.

Everyone should put on their "French" "Hatt" and say thanks. Sit down and have a piece of "Fudge". These are some of the ingredients to it all.

Should be a mighty fine "Daye" later as well.

All joking aside a very strong group of athletes with with a number of very good basketball players. Minor programs, summer clubs/camps, and opportunities to play growing province wide have been well used by these kids. A little bit of an exception to the rule in AA to have this many athletes and skilled kids on a JV team, even as 9th graders. I think right now with the exception of a few very large schools the best JV aged players are playing varsity. Very much looking forward to seeing them match up against some of the very best AAA JV teams in the province.

Here's hoping that they continue to do more to grow as players, help their provincial programs that have given them opportunities, and push themselves to play at a high level.

In other news based solely on early scores: A, AA, AAA girls may be more competitive top to bottom then first thought.

Sussex girls handled just about everyone at Harrison Trimble tourney including Riverview.

Harvey, Stanley, and Caledonia all lost to JC but weren't blown out then were tough with each other. GM beats Petti in Petti by single digits. Top of A girls may be pretty tight.

Not a lot out of AA this weekend that I've seen but that was expected to be a tough division 1- 7/8.

I believe we need to flash back to the old days to simplify the whole JV process. Back in the 80's the AAA JV teams played in the AA division. The AA JV teams could play single A ball. Single A schools tend not to have JV teams since they need every kid with a heartbeat to get enough to form a varsity team.

The province is too small to try to run any meaningful JV competition.

JV division seemed to have worked fine for "A" schools back in the day. What killed it was the fact that "A" schools close to urban areas decided to enter Middle school leagues that were not there before. If they contined using 7,8 and9's for JV instead of the Middle route it would flourish again I think.

In related news the AA JV teams will only be allowed to play exhibition this year, after discussions with the NBIAA and AAA schools.

What happened to the policy that bumped you up to the next level if your division didn't have enough teams. They were quick to move the "A" schools to double "AA" when the "A" schools didn't have the required number. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

As far as I can tell it is still there, but apparently subject to what AAA schools want league schedule wise, what is timely and convenient for NBIAA decision makers, and a little bit of who you are willing to upset over what.
