Baden Game of the Week - Game #1 Preview
St Thomas More (AA #6) at Terry Fox at 8:00pm

The defending "AAA" Champion Terry Fox Ravens will be hosting the #6 "AA" ranked, and last years second place team at the "AA"Provincials, The St. Thomas More Knights. Terry Fox will also be having a ceremony prior to the start of this game to celebrate their "AAA" title with the raising of the championship banner. This is the third championship in the Ravens history after they won back to back in 1993 & 1994. Many of the key players on last years team have graduated so this years edition of the Ravens is a young group. Expect 6'4" forward Trevor Casey to lead the way along with help from 6'2" G/F Cam Nicol.
The STM Knights have also lost some key players from last years squad but return 6'4" 200 pound forward Gio Trassolini who will be a force inside for the Knights and grade 11 point guard Jalen Jana. Head Coach of the Knights is Aaron Mitchell who is a graduate of Terry Fox and played on their 1994 championship team.
The game will be broadcast live on www.sportscanada.tv and I will be doing the play by play joined by former Terry Fox and U Vic women's coach, the legendary Richie Chambers.
Make sure you check out this first game of the Baden Game of the Week series as it promises to be a great night of high school hoops

Baden Game of the Week Recap
STM 54 Terry Fox 42
- A great night at Terry Fox as it was nice to be a part of the celebration for last years championship team. Most of the players were in attendance to help raise the championship banner prior to the start of the game. As can be expected for an early pre-season game it was a little sloppy with both teams stuggling at the offensive end. Turnovers were the main story of the game as Fox had over 40 of them which had them playing from behind all game. The Ravens strong rebounding kept them in the game but Jalen Jana dominated the fourth quarter getting to the hoop at will for the Knights and that proved to be the difference as STM pulled out the win. The game has been archived (as will all of the Baden games of the week) on www.sportscanada.tv so you can go back and watch it anytime. Next up is the championship game of the GW Graham AA Showcase tournament at 8:00pm on Sat Dec 15th. Teams competing in this tournament include honourable mention South Okanagan, number 10 ranked Archbishop Carney, number 9 ranked Kelowna Christian, number 8 ranked King George, and number 2 ranked Holy Cross.

Baden Game of the Week #2 is the championship final of the GW Graham "AA" Showcase. This game will feature the #2 ranked Holy Cross Crusaders led by their big man 6'7" Aaron Madaisky against perennial "A" Champions, the Kelowna Christian Knights. Kelowna Christian has moved up to play at the "AA" level this year and are presently ranked #9. The tip-off is scheduled for 8:00pm, after the girls championship game (which will also be broadcast), and the play by play will be from Mike Stoneburgh (head coach SLSS). Tune in enjoy this top level "AA" game.

Baden Game of the Week Game #3 Preview
Walnut Grove (8 and 1) Ranking #3 vs. Pitt Meadows (unranked) at Walnut Grove at 3:00pm on Sat Jan 5th

This game features two veteran coaching legends in George Bergen and Hall of Famer Rich Goulet. This has the potential to be a very good game if Pitt Meadows is healthy and has their injured players back. Walnut Grove was the pre season number one team but lost an early season game to unranked Gleneagle (they have since beaten Gleneagle) The Gaitors have been on a tear since that loss and have not lost again to any BC teams. Walnut Grove is led by grade 11 point guard phenom Jaden Cohee who was a 1st team all-star at last years BC's. They also get very steady play from senior Paul Getz and newcomer Josh Mayorga from Ontario has also looked impressive. The Marauders have had a tough time with injuries this year but if 6'8" big man Jordan Rich is back in the line-up this gives Pitt a whole new dimension. PG Sho Nashimoto provides a calming influence as one of the teams captains and Sebastien Marshall can shoot the ball and get to the hoop as one of the teams leading scorers.
Game time is 3:00pm on Saturday January 5th so make sure you tune in to www.sportscanada.tv to catch all of the action, I will doing the color commentary on the broadcast along with play by play from Mike Stoneburgh.

Baden Game of the week Game #4 Kitsilano #1 (10 and 0) vs. WRCA #4 (8 and 2)
Monday January 7th at 7:00pm at Kitsilano

This promises to be a great match-up between the #1 team and the #4 team in BC and it will also be a re-match of the Telus tournament championship game which Kitsilano beat WRCA 81 to 70. Kits is undefeated thus far against BC teams and is looking to keep their momentum going in the New Year. Kits is led by big man Luka "The Bazooka" Zaharevic who at 6'8" and 260lbs is a force inside as well as a great passer out of the post. Complimenting him down low is another big strong forward, Jonathan Kongbo, who is 6'7" and 240lbs. Kits also has very good guards who can really shoot the three-ball in Tom Campbell and Justin Sze. White Rock Christian is an experienced team who are looking to improve on their 3rd place finish at last years "AAA" BC's. The Warriors are led by point guard Tyus Allen who is a great ballhandler, passer, and slasher and Provincial team player Peter Spangehl is tough both inside and on the perimeter. This should be a great game and could have some big implications for the top ten so make sure you tune in to www.sportscanada.tv to catch all of the action. Province sports Howard Tsumura and Wilson Wong will be doing the broadcast.

*If you missed any of the Baden Games of the Week you can always go back and watch them anytime on www.sportscanada.tv as all games are being archived.

Baden Game of the Week Game #5
Vancouver College (#10) vs. St. Georges (#7) Wed. Jan 16th at 7:00 at V.C.
V.C vs. Saints is easily one of the most intense league rivalries in the entire Province. Expect a packed gym, rowdy fans, and most likely a close and exciting game. Both of these teams have been ranked this year but both have dropped as a result of losses especially with V.C. losing all three at the Legal Beagle. Presently Saints is ranked #7 and V.C. is ranked #10. The Saints are led by grade 11 sensation 6'7" Drew Urquhart who is considered amongst the best of the 2014 grad class and they get steady point guard play from senior Deklan Chung. The Fighting Irish have a balanced attack with guard Gogy Kumanan and forwards Will Latu and Christian Mair. The action starts at 7:00 so make sure you tune in to www.sportscanada.tv to watch all of the action. Former Capilano Blues coach, Paul Chiarenza will be doing the broadcast.

I heard that the VC vs. Saints game was pretty crazy. VC up by as much as 15 but saints with the big comeback, had a couple of close in shots to win it but came up short and lost by 1. Anybody who was there please share details with the rest of us.

Wish I could've caught the whole game live myslef, Went out but a little late only to find a Sold Out VC gym, walked in at halftime to surprisingly see VC up 46-31 and the gym was loud and packed to the brim with supporters from both sides. St. George's looked to really grind out the comeback in the 2nd half, working through Drew in the post and getting their guards to penetrate and get to the line to trim VCs big lead. Biggest play down the stretch was a gimme 2-footer Drew missed which would put Saints up, good game, great atmosphere.
Would love to hear from others who were there.

Baden Game of the Week Game #6
RC Palmer Griffins (#9 "AA") vs. Delview Raiders Fri. Jan 18th at 1:40 at Delview

This is the opening game of the Delview Classic Tournament which will be played in front of a raucous home crowd. Expect this game to be very high scoring as both teams love to run and shoot the three. After losing to KG in the Churchill Tournament Palmer has reeled off 3 straight wins averaging 98.5 points per game. Palmer is led by Provincial teamer Jamie Madewan who has averaged 35 points per game in Palmer's last 5 games. Delview has also put up some big numbers this year having scored triple-digits three separate times.

Go to www.sportscanada.tv to watch what promises to be a very entertaining game. You can also watch any of the other Games of the Week as they have all been archived.

Baden Game of the Week Game #7 Preview
St Johns Eagles ("A" #5) vs. Glenlyon Norfolk Gryphons ("A" HM) on Friday January 25th at 1:15pm
For this weeks game we are broadcasting from St John's located in the west side of Vancouver to bring you action from the "A" division. St John's is relatively new on the "A" scene but have had an impact as they have qualified for the BC's the last two seasons. Presently the Eagles are ranked #5 with an experienced roster featuring 9 grade 12's. This game will have a big crowd as it is the Eagles opening game of their tournament. Glenlyon Norfolk has had several years of success at the "A" level and they feature a roster that relies heavily on grade 12's and they also have a 6'9" player. The tournament runs through to Saturday with the final slated for 8:00pm. Also in this tournament is WPGA ("A" #1) and BC Christian Academy ("A" #7)

I am looking forward to doing the broadcast of this game make sure you go to www.sportscanada.tv for all of the action

Final Score was Lambrick Park 67 over St. Michael's 57

Only caught the first half of the game but SMU seemed to be missing their 6'7 big man Mac Catto who has struggled with injury throughout the year, overheard the commentators for the game say he might be out for the season with a nagging knee injury. Also did not see guard Dawit Workie play either for SMU who is an outstanding pentetrator and outside shooter, the injury bug seems to have hit SMU at the most inoppurtune time heading into what will be a highly competitive AA Island playoff. Lambrick 6'9 big man Matt Neufeld seemingly had his way down low, as SMU could not match his length. Should be interesting how the Island seedings fall out after this game, which looking from the outside-in is a big upset, as SMU had been ranked #1 in BC for the first two months of the season. We have 6 AA Island teams ranked in the Top 10 + HM and only 3.5 berths to the Provincials for the Island. Looks like someone will miss out and SMU losing their last 3 games in a row(losses to Holy Cross, Belmont and now Lambrick) and 3W-5L in their last 8 games could be sliding out of the picture if they're not careful.

SMUS was indeed missing Mack Catto and has not had him for the past four games. Dawit Workie was missing for the Lambrick Park game due to a rugby commitment but will be back in the SMUS lineup for South Islands and Islands. Those absences were factors for SMUS, but credit Lambrick for playing well and hitting big shots when they needed them. Lambrick guards Chris Fougner and Alex Chen were actually the keys, both hitting huge shots at critical times. Fougner also stole the ball a number of times for lay-ups. South Islands begin next week and figure to be a dogfight with Brentwood College, SMUS, Lambrick Park, Gulf Islands, PCS and Shawnigan all contenders for the four berths to Islands. Wellington and Isfeld in the north Island figure to be tough as well. At least 8 quality teams for 3.5 Island berths.

Baden Game of the Week Game #9
The "Best of the West Classic"
West Vacouver Highlanders vs. Sentinel Spartans Thu. Feb 7th at 7:30 at West Van

This is an annual event that is promoted by the marketing students at West Van and it is hugely popular. Expect a big crowd to be at this game and in addition to the basketball there will be half-time shows and other entertainment. The Spartans are presently first in the North Shore with a 6 and 1 record and are looking to grab that one elusive AAA berth to the BC's. Sentinel is led by Provincial Team U17 standout Chase Ruttenberg and team captain 6'4" Charlie Morison. West Van is presently in 5th place at 3 wins and 4 losses and need a win badly to try and catch 4th place Sutherland for a playoff spot. Both of these teams have veteran coaches in Klaus Heck (Sentinel) and Rob Ros (WV). Tip-off is set for 7:30pm and ex-Capilano coach Paul Chiarenza will be doing the broadcast. Make sure you go to www.sportscanada.tv to catch all the action.
