After the few games played, these would be my ranking.

1. Kitsilano (Just one reason - Luka)
2. WRCA
3. St George
4. Yale ( I am not sure about this rank)
5. Mouat
6. Churchil
7. Walut grove (The reason for fall is this team is way overrated and overhyped by media in the pre-season)
8. Tamaniwis(strong underrated team in FV)
9. Churchill
10. Enver creek, Gleneagle, VC, Burnaby south, Oak bay

Based on the first 3 days of the season, predict that this is going to be another excellent year of B-ball with no clear cut number 1 (as Kelowna clearly established for most of the year last season). Number 1 is going to change a lot this year. Here is what I have so far;

1. Kitsilano - Disagree about Luka. He is excellent 8 feet and in (spin moves and offensive boards), BUT has no outside game beyond 8 feet, cannot drive to the hoop if he gets the ball outside of 8 feet, not good on the dribble, and loves to take the foul on defence. Not as big as he used to be and if a defender establishes position 10-12 feet out, Luka is not really a factor. Yet, if Kits can hit 3s, he opens up space for an outside attack as teams have to respect his low post presence.
2. WRCA - battling injuries but they can really light it up.
3. Yale - look good on paper, but very young and who have they played so far?
4. Walnut Grove - did anyone really think they would go undefeated? Still a very good team but one loss does not drop them 8 spots.
5. St. George's - excellent shooting team,
6. Churchill - have not seen them yet
7. Vancouver College - yes, how did everyone forget about them
8. Enver Creek - always a strong team
9. Gleneagle - Top 10 reward for knocking off #1
10. Mouat - always a slow starting team that likes to play 15 deep to start the season

HM - Tammy, Terry Fox, Oak Bay, Burnaby South

Predict there will be more changes to this list after the next 5-7 days. Love High school ball.

Magicman, We both agreed in having Kits at number 1 eventho we disagree on luka. To me, Luka is unguardable and will dominate the post. There is no big body this year who can defend him.

Dont you think Kits got the short end of the stick for not getting the invite to play at the Tsumura Basketball Invitational whereas teams like Fox, Churchill, Mouat all got invited. They deserved to be there.

I agree that Kits is number one right now, based on regular season play to date. But lots and lots of games to play and Kits will lose a few this year. Luka is the best big man in B.C. if you want a low post player, and what a smile, but he does have some flaws in his game that he will need to address as he moves to the next level, other high school coaches will exploit it. I'm not sure he could play effectively in an offensive 5 out system.

There is one reason as to why Tsumura did not invite Kits. It is a well-known fact that every team and coach in the province dislikes Kits and it does not stem from jealousy, either. Its the way there players and coaches act before games, during games and after games. Everyone likes to see Kits lose because when they win, they can be the biggest "losers" after the game.

PostSubject: Interesting Matchup   Sat Dec 01, 2012 6:05 pm

Apparently Kits will have a chance to prove that they deserve the #1 spot tonight. Just saw that the are facing #2 Yale in the final of Yale's tournament tonight at 8:45. So, if you believe in pre-season rankings at all, tonight's matchup should move one of these two teams to the top spot. Kits beat Port Moody 94-55 and North Surrey 78-46 to get to the final. Yale beat Panorama Ridge 105-56 and #10 Burnaby South 105-78 to advance. Scores are being posted at Yale's athletics page.

Thursday Scores
Panorama Ridge 87 Chilliwack 68
Abby 84 Riverside 43
North Surrey beat Semiahmoo
Yale 105 Panorama Ridge 54
Port Moody 106 Earl Marriott 70
Burnaby South 85 Abby 84
North Surrey 89 Rutland 57
Kits 94 Port Moody 55

Friday Scores
Chilliwack 84 Riverside 79
Semiahmoo defeated Earl Marriott
Abby 73 Panorama Ridge 67
Port Moody 80 Rutland 65
Kits 78 North Surrey 46
Yale 105 Burnaby South 78

Mistake. That was two weeks ago and I don't remember who I had wanted to rank there. But so much has changed since then. Mouat and Pitt dropped all the way, Enver so impressive, Sardis improving, St Georges disappointing, Churchil inconsistent, Kelowna promising, VC no push over, Yale still not clear, Grove looks too menacing, Kits still going strong are the few developments since then.

Gators won their Candy Cane tournament by beating Lord Tweedsmuir 101-74 in the final in front of a packed house. Very strong team effort. Tweed shot well from the outside, but Grove's overall play was too much to overcome.

PostSubject: Rankings and Predictions Means Nothing    Sun Dec 16, 2012 11:36 am

There are a lot of people that profess they know what they are talking about when it comes to who should be ranked in the top 10. I just find it very amusing that most if not all that posted in this category NEVER GOT IT RIGHT. Last year the Terry Fox Ravens worked their ass of and payed no attention to all of you who jockey who should be on the top ten list. Instead they worked their ass off in the gym and lived in the spirit of Terry Fox. They did what people like most of you that post predictions here think is impossible and showed that it could be done. They focused on the prize in the end and won what all of you thought belonged to another team. Yes Terry Fox Ravens won the Provincial Championship.

This year I would not be surprised if those jockeying to be on the top of the polls get their top spot but it might just be limited to that a poll. Enjoy that position because it might be the only time they can claim the prized spot.

Look out for those not in the radar gentlemen! Competition is too stiff to predict who will end up on top except to say that whoever works hardest will certainly earn the top!

Cheers to all the boys that are committed! In my view your all Champs! Pay less attention to the hype and get your ass back in the gym and focus!

AAA to enlighten you a bit Terry Fox floated in and out of the Top 10 all of last year. They were a good team and yes any of the top teams including HM have a chance at winning it. All four of last years semi-finalists fluctuated in and around the Top 10. The favorite and #1 Kelowna just did not bring their A game after dominating most of the year. Terry Fox was beaten soundly by Walnut Grove in 3 games leading up to their final's match-up including the Fraser Valleys Championships and had them on the ropes in the Finals but great for them that they prevailed. It's always a challenging task to win the championship or run the table after being #1 or a top team. University of Kentucky did it last year. Will Indiana do it this year even though they lost to Butler yesterday. They'll still be a perennial #1 and favorite down the stretch. This is what makes sports great you can never predict with absolute certainty, but I can tell you the majority of the time the top favored teams prevail. If you are looking for the Cinderella story or that Princeton will go on to win after beating #1 then write a movie transcript. It happens rarely. In the end one of the top teams mentioned during the weekly Top 10's will win it. Who is hot down the stretch, injury free, deep and a little karma on their side will win it. If Terry Fox wins it this year again it will be a major shock as they aren't any where as good as the team that was in the Top 10 pretty much all last year. This season is setting up for some good battles and there are several who can be the last team standing in March. Good luck to all.

Terry Fox WAS ranked # 1 early last season and promptly got beat by Oak Bay 72-53 and "AA" SMUS 72-50.

Terry Fox were very up and down last year. They had a good tournament at the right time and also were helped by the 'curious' BC draw that was put in place.

Helped ? Curious draw ? They opened up against a team that beat them handily earlier in the year (Oak Bay), they beat the #2 seed and co-favourite (Pitt) and had to beat a hot WRCA team that pulled upsets along the way.

Fox got hot at the right time. It also helped they could go 5 deep in a provincial game when most teams went 2-3 deep.

I didn't like some of the 'seeding' that resulted in two top 4 teams seeing each other in the quarters - VC/Kel.

Mike - I take nothing away from what Fox did. They had a great tourney and deserved what they earned.
