PostSubject: St. Basil's and Korah start strong at OFSAA   Tue Mar 05, 2013 5:37 am

"Mazzuca leads Saints in OFSAA-opening win

The St. Basil Saints got off to a brilliant start at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations AA senior boys basketball championships in Richmond Hill on Monday.

The Saints, ranked No. 2 in the tournament, defeated Jean Fanier 60-40 as Mitch Mazzuca exploded for 22 points and Joey Bruni scored 14.

The Saints will take on No. 15 ranked St. Mike's from Niagara Falls today at 2:30 p.m. and win there will vault them into the quarter-finals against the winner of Eden from St. Catharines against Crescent from Toronto.

The tournament wraps up Wednesday with championship action.

Iacoe catches fire as Colts win first two at OFSAA AAA tournament

The Korah Colts did what they had to do Monday at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations AAA senior boys basketball championships by winning both their games.

The eighth-ranked Colts opened things up with a thrilling 63-61 over 14th ranked I.E. Weldon from Peterborough and then edged ninth-ranked Dennis O'Connor 68-63.

In the opener, Anthony Iacoe scored a game-high 34 points while Sam Ivey chipped in with 10 points.

Against Dennis O'Connor, Iacoe again led the way with 26 points, Jonah Fogg scored 18 points and Stephen Maloney chipped in with 10 points.

The road will get a lot stiffer today as the Colts take on No. 1 ranked Catholic Central from Windsor in a 10 a.m. showdown, with the winner advancing the semifinals."

Keep it up boys! Very Happy

Copied from the Sault Star:

"Monday and Tuesday they won their first three games at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) AA championships in Markham/Richmond Hill.

The Saints defeated Toronto’s Crescent high school 65-53 Tuesday night to advance to the semifinals at the three-day tournament.

St. Basil — ranked No. 2 at the 18-team tourney — was to lace up at noon today against Blessed Mother Teresa, from Toronto."

"Colts ousted at OFSAA

Meanwhile on Tuesday, the Korah Colts (eighth seed) were bounced from OFSAA AAA competition in Windsor after losing 72-39 to Windsor’s Catholic Central High School, one of the host teams for the three-day tournament.

Sam Ivey put up 11 points for the Colts in the game.

Windsor’s Catholic Central was ranked No. 1 coming into the 16-team tournament.

Korah won its first two games of the event on Monday by close margins before being eliminated Tuesday morning."

"When they go against No. 3 ranked Mother Teresa today, they will face a club that is a “run-and-gun team” that likes to apply full-court pressure, Mazzuca said.

If the Saints win at noon, they will advance to the gold-medal game at 8 p.m. tonight. If they lose, they will play for the bronze at 6 p.m."

Good Luck today St. Basil's!! Very Happy
