first 2 tourneys loook crazy
Looks like we could see a WRCA/WG and Tammy/Yale final
These could be two great games because if i'm not mistaken grove lost in double ot last time these guys met and yale beat tammy on a buzzer beater. Sounds Great

The Killarney tournament final could be pretty good too as I think it will be a Holy Cross vs Kits final. Both Holy Cross (AAA #2) and SMU (AA #1) are clearly the top 2 AA squads and it wouldn't surprise me if Holy Cross can hang with Kits.
It will be interesting to see if SMU can play with Walnut Grove in the opening round of the Emerald but again I think they will have a very good showing.

Predictions:

Emerald - WRCA/Grove Final
I think Grove will have the last game from the Beagle in mind, and pull out a squeaker, should be close either way, but if Cohee can find a rhythm on offense which he didn't have at the Beagle, Grove should win. (Grove +2)

Delta - Yale/Tammy Final
The last game they played, was a back and forth affair with Yale up most of the game but Tammy never let up and came back all the way upto the final buzzer. I think Yale's duo of Pankratz/Bennett-Boire will really try to put their stamp on this one and outgun a great Tammy team. (Yale +6)

Killarney - Kits/Holy Cross Final
Kits size and strength up front will try to be matched by Holy Cross' frontcourt length and athleticism, Kits big Luka is a great passer who if doubled is dangerous at finding his guards cutting to the hoop for easy lay-ups, but if Holy Cross can control the boards and pace this one will be close. (+/-Even)

Any Teams looking like spoilers this week for the expected finals?
Haven't seen Oak Bay play but heard good things, I assume they will give WRCA a good game and maybe an upset possible. Also McMatch with this kid McCaskill could put up 50 pts and surprise #1 Yale, who knows we've already seen one #1 ranked team be upset this month by an unranked team.

Oak Bay is a very good team. Big, athletic and can play defence. WRCA has knocked them off already this year at Oak Bay's barn, but the game was close and Oak Bay is capable of winning. After back to back weekend tournament wins against strong opponents (WG and Tammy), does WRCA have the mental toughness to battle through another difficult weekend schedule where everyone is gunning for them?

SMU can knock off WG in an upset (not saying they will, but they are the #1 ranked AA team) They shoot the ball well, have size, run effectively and have excellent team fundamentals. Should be a great game and WG would be wise to come prepared to play hard from the openning tip to avoid an upset.

Hope Tammy and Yale do play this weekend. Should be a dandy as I don't think Yale has anyone that can stop Bains from getting to the hoop and scoring. Tammy by 8.

Pitt won their Airshow on the weekend on the backs off strong performances
From Marshall and Rich....Marshall is a whirlwind and Rich, coming off injuries, is really
Starting to make his presence felt....they beat good Churchill squad in the final, and seem to be getting their dynamic sorted out....emerald tourney should be great, with Pitt drawing a ranked kelowna team....should be a great weekend of ball....

A very well thought out and constructive comment vancouverswish.

Have you seen Pitt play? Having been a semi-regular reader of this forum I have often seen people just make judgments on teams that they rarely or never see play, and simply judge from what they read on here. However, maybe I'm wrong and you have seen them multiple times and are an expert, if that is the case I apologize.

Having seen Pitt play at the Beagle and once at the Airshow, my opinion is that they are as good as any valley team outside of Tammy, Yale, Grove and WRCA. The Emerald will be a great tourney and I hope to get out and see a few games, my pick to win is WRCA as they just have too many players who can score, and have been able to beat grove in the past.

Yet another great weekend of Highschool ball in BC, good luck to all the teams!

Kits vs Holy Cross final tonight as expected, should be interesting to see if Holy Cross can hang in there with a big, skilled Kits team, whoever can control the boards in this one will take it. Will be a game of Kits skill and strength vs Holy Cross speed and athleticism.

Saw Grove-SMU game yesterday, SMU put up a good fight, but Grove was too much and won 76-63. SMU was just killed on transition, Grove's fast break and transition offense is one of the best in the Province, Grove F Josh Mayorga is an unbelievable passer, his full court in bounds passes seem to always lead to easy baskets. SMU kept the game from being a blow-out by shooting the ball well, the 3-point ball kept this from being a 20-30 point game. SMU is a good disciplined team and gave Grove a good game, next up for SMU is Pitt should be interesting, but I think SMU wins.

Also saw the Terry Fox-Vancouver College score, wow, VC is on a slide after winning that George's game, a loss to AA-STM and now Fox, Fox seems to be picking up their game as the season rolls on, coach Hansen seems to be getting the most out of his young squad.

I agree with you regarding Grove. Anyone who watches them play for any short period of time will see how quickly they move the ball down the court. A team that scores against them needs to really hustle their way back on defence, because Grove is always looking to score in transition and move the ball down the court quickly. If you can get them into a half court game and limit their ability to score on the run, you have a much improved chance of playing them tight

I just watched both semi-finals games of the Emerald Tournament at VC. WRCA managed to outlast Fox by single digits as Fox's 1-3-1 zone is starting to get very strong. Even though Vartan (#17 on WRCA) fouled out, Tyus picked up the scoring load along with some of the other players on their starting lineup. WRCA has got impressive ball movement, great team defense, good chemistry, and a variety of offensive threats on their team. The Grove game was more of a one-sided match as Grove handed Kelowna a 38 point loss. To Kelowna's defense however, one of their best players, Buzz Truss, fractured his fibula and tibia in the quarter finals on Thursday and remains in hospital. This is a huge shame because Buzz is a tough player to go up against. I'm really looking forward to the Grove/WRCA rematch in the finals. I was at the Beagle finals and both teams looked very strong. Number 24 on Walnut Grove had a stellar game in the Beagle finals and I'm looking forward to see how WRCA matches up against him tomorrow. I think that if Jadon Cohee finds his rhythm tomorrow, Grove will have the upper hand in the game. However, it should be great game and either team could take the victory.

The 1-3-1 caused WRCA problems. Had Fox rebounded better on the defensive end and hit their free throws the outcome would have been a lot closer.

Very sad about Truss. I was there. Very ugly situation. I heard he had surgery today and we can all only hope he recovers fully and is back on the hardwood next year. He's a tough kid and I'm certain we'll see him back better than ever.

Even with Truss the game would not have been close. Kelowna had no answer on defense. Grove's transition is fun to watch. Cohee constantly pushing ball and finishing or finding open man and Mayorga and Getz get it rolling with great outlets. The game tomorrow will be very interesting. Rebounding will play the deciding factor. Both Cohee and Allen have been stellar this tournament. Cohee hit at least 5 threes today and Tyus took the close game over in the fourth quarter with his penetration.

Friday, January 25th Game Results Updated on TOP POST

Grove-WRCA should be fun to watch tommorow, love how the start times set-up as I'll have time to watch Tammy-Yale b4 heading out to watch the Emerald final. Cohee has been playing great and it should be a good game, I think Walnut will take this one, as for Yale-Tammy I still think Yales duo of Pankratz and Bennett-Boire will overmatch Tammy and Bains.

Also will be interesting to see how rankings for next week fall out as Kits lost to Double-A #2 Holy Cross in a great game I got a chance to check out after watching the Emerald Tourney early in the day. Holy Cross is THE most exciting team in BC, I've watched all the top AAA teams play and only at a Holy Cross game do you see a teams first basket being a Alley-Oop Dunk in the half court set, and Highlight Reel Blocks on Kits bigs Zaharijevic and Kongbo, by the 4th Qtr. the Kits guards would not even go up for lay-ups looking not to get the ball swatted away. Fun to watch high school basketball this time of year.

very impressed by the very young Fox team who starts 3 grade 10 and at time including the last 5 minutes of the College game finished with 4 juniors
