PostSubject: Raymond /Cardston   Mon Jan 18, 2010 8:10 pm

Score as reported in the ASAA -

RAYMOND 71---CARDSTON 68

Sounds like a great game and a rough one .There must have been some National Rugby Coaches in town to watch the game. Those 2 towns certainly like to bang each other. No backing down. When do they play again??? Obviously worth the trip no matter where you travel from. lol! bounce Basketball bounce

PostSubject: Re: Girls basketball   Tue Jan 19, 2010 1:50 pm

I know this is the girls section but this post applies to all 3 games played that night.

THE REFS SHOULD BE ASHAMED , THEY WERE HORRIBLE.
They cannot keep control of the game. If they would whistle the rough stuff right from the start, it would stop, then the skilled players could play a good basketball game that would be entertaining.
Football is long over and rugby does not start for a while, so refs pull your head out of your ----- and do your job.
You are teaching the kids, that to compete you have to be rougher, dirtier, and not get caught to win. Is that what high school sports are about?????

These games are not about you, no not you! Its about the kids. Get over yourselfs and your "no consequence authority trip"
No wonder the coaches are not happy with you and kids want to kill each other, IT IS YOUR FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!

We are all getting tired of this as fans (both sides) no matter who wins or loses, WE ARE ALL SICK OF IT!!!!!!!!
Do your jobs and let the kids decide the out come, not something you refs have "decided how the game is going to go" before the jump ball!!

Sorry folks for the rant! I know my comments would be the majority not the minority as I have heard from both sides!!!

So no wonder the northern teams struggle when they head down south and they are not prepared to play Football/basketball and lose. For years we have heard teams from Edmonton complain about the suspect officiating at events such as the Sugar Bowl, but maybe they weren't just whining. Why is it that as you head south the game becomes more physical to the point of not being a skill game anymore? Are the refs not attending the same clinics and using the same rule book? Just curious as I have never seen a game in the deep south but i was intrigued by a southern fan seeing the same issue that i have heard about.

They have been finalized, so as long as there are no glitches, the ASAA site will have them up on Monday.

PostSubject: exam break rankings   Fri Jan 22, 2010 7:02 pm

Ranking and comments as of exam break :

Southfan --didn't you suggest earlier to Rareair Raymond should go 3A !!!!

1.HA-no doubt at this point !!
2.O'Leary-until proven different.
3.Spruce Grove-could change with O'Leary.
4.Raymond - if they stay in 4A ???--could exchange spots with Cardston.
5.Cardston-will be the number 1 South team at end of year.
6.Strathcona - time will tell when playing higher ranked teams.
7.Centennial-beat Mary's early in year-beat HWW by 8 at Beaverbrook final next 2 weeks will tell.
8.St.Mary's --starting to play as a team rookies getting stronger-beat Francis,EPS(by33),HWW(by24)
9.Jasper Place-next in Edmonton.
10.EPS-athletic and young.Beat LCI and Marys early in year .
11.Francis-should not be here, have way to much talent -poor showing in Cardston unfortuneatley.
12.LCI-unpredictable only win really vs Francis then got pounded by Immanuel Christian.
13.SWC-waiting for injuries to return.
14.Facey-doing well lately.
15.HWW-scary team as they are physical and athletic would benefit from the South officiating as they are also into rugby at there school- could upset teams in March.

Funny what a little wine does !!!!

PostSubject: HM - Teams 11-15   Sat Jan 23, 2010 6:47 pm

I look at some of the ranking suggestions and was surprized by most of the comments with regards to teams 11 through 15 and expect we will see lot's of new faces.

11.Francis-should not be here, have way to much talent -poor showing in Cardston unfortuneatley.
Where should they be? you need to win to be ranked?

12.LCI-unpredictable only win really vs Francis then got pounded by Immanuel Christian.
Again why would they be in the top 15?, unpredictable is not good.

13.SWC-waiting for injuries to return.
How long do we wait, matbe once they come back they could be ranked? How bad are the players hurt? when do they return? can they be an impact upon thier return

14.Facey-doing well lately.
Doing well lately?? Who have they beat as of late, I think they are struggling? I believe lost to PK twice.

15.HWW-scary team as they are physical and athletic would benefit from the South officiating as they are also into rugby at there school- could upset teams in March.
Don't know much about Rugby, except it's like football without equipment. A team like that gets in foul trouble no matter who's officiating or where the game's being played.

PostSubject: Rankings   Sat Jan 23, 2010 7:17 pm

Rankings are only for interest of the people involved and have very little impact on what actually is going to happen when the reps .from each zone are brought forward .St. Francis will be a rep. from Calgary in March I am sure and others mentioned earlier may also be included , only the order is yet to be determined.Raymond beat Francis by 8 only in Cardston Tourney so don't count them out. They did not play particularly well and only lost by 8. The next game vs LCI meant very little and Francis played all there players equally as it is early in the season and winning the consolation side of a tournament may not be a priority to them -I am only speculating .It is interesting reading about different regions in the province but as I said earlier the ranking s in the big picture only determine the seeding for the tourney and perhaps the wild card .It is fun however watching us all jockey for position and is very entertaining .

I agree, however unlike last year we (Scona) will be tested in Febraury, but this time it will not only be by teams in our League........ We have a few big tournaments; PK, Western, and St. Mary..........I can't wait, it will be fun......

PostSubject: ranking period   Mon Jan 25, 2010 1:48 am

The second ranking period usually comes around Feb.15 if I remember correctly from last year. Which will be great as there is a lot of great match ups before then .I believe one of the official rankers could help us out with more details of when the cut off is!!!!!

Semester Break rankings should be out sometime today. There are also a set of rankings done in a few weeks. I have always thought the ranking timeline was a little bit odd, but it hasn't changed and everyone has survived so far Laughing
Here is a link to the timeline from the ASAA site.

Churchill Rose Tourney:
For third place - Bishop O'Leary over Raymond by about 20, I think 51 to 31.
Final - Harry Ainlay over Spruce Grove by 40 something, 95 to 48. Ainlay pressed most of the way - sending a message perhaps?

There was a 4 team exhibition go round with St. Mary's, Springbank, another Calgary team and a Medicine Hat team.

Does anyone know the outcome of any of those games?

Well it looks the rankers have done a fair job. Last week at the Rose tourney O'Leary lost to Ainlay in the 2nd round but beat out Raymond for third place.
Today, in the Tri Prov round two, O'Leary beat out Raymond again (closer game) to advance to the final against Ainlay. Little doubt in my mind Raymond will make short work of Bev Facey, but I hope the BF girls give them a run.
The O'Leary girls haven't faired well against Ainlay but seriously, who has?
They've kept the losses to 19 and 35 points, which oddly is an achievement this year.

At the Centennial tourney not many high caliber teams attended looks like Centennial play EPS in the final at 515 tonight .

Western Canada tourney had some better caliber teams ::Girls final has Jasper Place(beat Strathcona in semi) vs LCI (beat Wise Wood) at 630.
