Good point Daily Double, part of me agrees you. The other part does not want to be the coach who always peaks to soon, so we will work on that all year. Also i will say to you guys like say to my team, "Until we win our first play-off game, we have not proved anything"

This time if we are ranked it will not matter, because personally i like it when people say; "thought you might win, but not by that much"........ Also last year i handle being ranked wrong. This year, i will wear that privilage proudly and prepare my team to compete weekly. However, just so you know i was more surprised then anyone that we were ranked so high. I know we didn't do our job last year, and i will take full responsibilty myself for the weak finish.

This year we only have one goal, work hard every game, and leave it on the floor...... Good Luck, this year will be crazy afro

Daily Double,
I don't hold too much stock in the rankings. You're right in that its curious how Scona was ranked numer 1 at the beginning of the season when when they weren't ranked at all at the end of the previous season. I personally haven't seen much of the Calgary and South teams so I won't guess at a top ten, other than HA likely to be #1

Last year O'L didn't make it past Honorable Mention, yet knocked off some stong teams in both the metro playoffs and crossovers to make it to provincials. In provincials round 2 they came within 6 points of upsetting Raymond; Raymonds smallest margin of win. As night baller said, you're proving nothing until the playoffs

Its still very early but from the games I've seen (FX & JP tourneys) theres clearly some stronger teams right now. Key injuries can always change that and momentum can be tough to maintain when you're strong out of the gate

-Gus

Daily Double may have some insight that many of us do not. He/she predicted St.F and St.M from Calgary would be ranked and not EPS. Although EPS beat St.M by 16 points to win the Classic here, Mary's beat them last night by 33 points. The rankings this time of year is a crap shoot.

Shaq:
You need to read the rankings more carefully. Those are the final season rankings for last year. The first set of rankings comes out on Dec 21.

Ya I know I mis-spoke. I know the real rankings don't come out until Monday. Still it is somewhat of an indicator as the same schools usually show up in the top ten. A good program is a good program!

southfan...
my error in ranking Scarlett ahead of Cardston....I had missed that Cardston beat them at the LCI tournament. Remember that the rankings that come out tomorrow did not take into account any games after December 12th.

PostSubject: Calgary B-Ball   Mon Dec 21, 2009 9:02 am

Marys has a limited number of players 9 and one of the players missed the first game vs Scarlett who was at a provincial v ball camp. Also, the team played as a group not Claire vs the other team which allowed all to get involved in the offence .Claire is a great passer of the b ball and sees the floor better than most. She truly became the quarterback of the Saints .They also shut down the Scarlett top scorers who previously scored 31 and 28 points respectively. The last game they were limited to 8 and 10 points .Also the Scarlett press was not a factor this game as Marys played with more confidence and poise than the previous meeting. The one team that is a sleeper in Calgary is Churchill . They are not mentioned anywhere really but will be there in the end for sure .Centennial is a huge team that will compete as well .Francis should be the top team if the coaches can handle the outside pressures- !!!!!. We all hate those don't we . santa santa cherry

I like to see that the teams are a little closer this year than in years past. Seems like in Calgary over the last three or four years the top one or two teams was a forgone conclusion. This year there are four or five teams in Calgary that really have a shot. It's going to make for some exciting basketball this winter and a lot of talk. Having said that, I think Ainley will be the top team all year this season. If O'Leary and Spruce Grove still have there usual coaches, they will be contenders for sure. And, I will never doubt Raymond again. The teach them right down there.

Ainlay looks like the team to beat though not as familiar with the other Edmonton teams this year. Agreed Centennial is big and deep and probably deserves better than an honorable mention. Have not seen Churchill in action yet. Raymond has struggled against Cardston so far.
In Calgary South, the foul count in the first league games affected the play and results of these games. For example, Centennial vs. Mary’s close thru out until last 4 min when the foul count took over; 7 fouls on Mary’s to 0 fouls on Centennial in 4th quarter - Centennial won. Scarlett vs. Mary’s - Scarlett also with 9 players had early foul trouble and the game got away on them.

2 of those teams that Ainlay beat by 30 and 40 points are ranked #3 and #9 in BC. This team is dominating.

Cardston has tournament Jan 8,9. It will be very good! #1 HA #3 Cardston #6 St. Marys #7 Raymond #8 St. Francis
H.M LCI and the #1 2A Team Immanuel Christian, who is kicking the tar out of everybody they have played thus far!
Raymond vs St. Frrancis
Magrath vs. St. Marys
Cardston vs. Immanuel Christian
L.C.I vs HA

It will be very interesting, got to hand it to Cardston girls, they don't take an easy road! They should have played Magrath 1st. Immanuel Christian will give them all they can handle, then if they win it looks like St.Marys.

The other side will be amazing, Raymond will take St. Francis and then take their shot at HA.

Looks like nobody can give HA a game!

What do the rest of you think?????
