VanCity Basketball Academy is the Lower mainlands newest Youth Basketball Club. Based out of the North Shore, the club directors have a lot of history in Basketball in North and West Vancouver.
Jamie Oei played his high school basketball at Argyle and Windsor Secondary Schools. Jamie was part of the 1992/93 North Shore AA champs and was the AAA Howe Sound MVP as the Dukes won the North Shore Championships in 1993/94 and went on to a 4th Place finish at the BC Championship. Jamie played 2 years at Capilano College under former Windsor and Handsworth Coach (and Team Canada coach) Phil Langley.
After that Jamie won 2 National Championships as a player at Langara College before being named Canada's youngest College Head Coach.
Jamie went on to a coaching career which included the BC and Canadian College Coach of the Year in 2001 as well as recognition as a finalist for the North Shore News Coach of the Year. Jamie also coached for 2 years in Sweden and returned to lead Douglas College to the first undefeated National Championship in 2008, the first Men's BasketballChampionship in school history.
Since then Jamie has worked on the North Shore for 3D Basketball and is currently in his 4th year as an Assistant Coach at UBC.
Graeme McCallum is Jamie's partner with VanCity Basketball and he has ties to the North Shore as well. Graeme was a Provincial All-Star at
Terry Fox Secondary in Coquitlam. After suffering 2 devastating knee injuries, Graeme ended up playing his first year of College Basketball at
Capilano College in 2005/06 and helped the Blues to a BCCAA Bronze medal. He then transferred to Douglas College to play 2 years for Head Caoch
Jamie Oei where the team captured 2 BCCAA titles and made it to the National Final both years. Graeme was the MVP of the National
Championship team in 2008 and followed that up with a professional career in London, England.
With the help of Jamie, Graeme turned to coaching upon his return from London and has coached the 2011/12 Argyle Grade 8 boys to the North Shore
league title and the 2012/13 Sentinel Grade 8 boys to a 2nd place in the North Shore and 3rd in the Vancouver and District Championships.
