PostSubject: 2013 2014 AAA Boys   Mon Oct 07, 2013 4:37 pm

There have been some posts about the pre season girls top 10 and A boys and certainly lots about mini rule changes. It's odd that AAA boys hasn't been discussed yet. Perhaps this might be because many expect Fredericton to roll through the province undefeated, especially since many of the players are returning. KV fell short two years in a row, and with Nissen now playing Stateside, they are back to the drawing board. Does anyone else have a shot? If not, lets just go back to talking about mini and we can reconvene next fall.

AAA boys Fredericton is the favorite.

Of the boys teams that could give them a run. Riverview has some athletes but not the depth to make a run at them in Nov. KVHS will be a different looking team and whether that makes them better or worse is yet to to be seen. I think the most dangerous team is LHHS. They've been doing really good things even when their talent pool was down, they are older, deeper and have some studs in their lineup. If they can get buy in by Feb. then they are the only team in those 4 that a feel like could put FHS in a situation to be upset. There would be enough x factors (emotion, rivalry, etc) to make that game a slippery slope in an upset situation.

Thanks for your insights, coach. I agree with your assessment. LHHS would make for an interesting spoiler and upset the balance of power in Fredericton hoops. FHS is the front runner for now. If they can get everyone out and healthy, they will be tough to beat.

I think there are a number of AAA coaches on this site that rather not comment to avoid giving their opponents some bulletin board material (I've seen some I can use already). At the risk of doing so myself I'll try to keep the conversation going...

KVHS Varsity boys season outlook...

Yes we have some big shoes to fill after loosing 7 players to graduation but we have a strong group of returning kids. It's looking like we have an 13 man roster; 5 grade 12's, 4 grade 11's and 4 grade 10's. In that group there are 8 players that have played BNB provincial teams plus 3 other athletes that represented NB at the 2013 Canada Games in other sports (1 baseball & 2 soccer). We should be a very athletic team with good size (six players 6'2" or taller). Our challenge this year will be overcoming the struggles younger players typically have when moving up to varsity. Hopefully this will be behind us when post-season play begins in February. In addition to our 10 southern conference games, we will be attending the Lion's Den (Nov 15-17), Cobequid Tip-off (Nov 22-23), CP Allen Tournament (Nov 29-30), Capital City Classic (Dec 13-14), Riverboat (Jan 9-11) and the Dairytown Classic (Jan 30 - Feb 1). Players to watch this season: Brad Sanford (6'4" Sr Guard), Ethan O'Neil (6'3" Jr. Forward), Jack Tilley (5'9" So PG) plus a number of other very talented kids no one talks about....but not for much longer :-)

Ruh Roh Shaggy . . . looks like Feb came fast and LHHS is ready right now. Great win for Coach Hickey's staff and team. Ladies and gentlemen we have a season.

Saturday's game between LHHS and FHS was what high school sports is all about. Energy in the building, some highs and lows, mistakes and well executed plays. Talent level is solid, LHHS took advantage of FHS foul trouble, but that's part of the game. Some clutch shooting. To win a game on a three (75-72) with seven seconds left in your own building and a packed house makes for rivalry renewed. Fun stuff to watch. Some of the chirping was pretty good, too! BevS
