What's up with Mindy playing Drive? Does that mean he isn't going to UBC?

I believe even if you sign to play with CIS school you are still able to play with AAU teams. I may be wrong. I'm sure it is different with NCAA. I think a few other guys are playing on drive after signing to play in CIS. And with Mindy I believe it was a verbal commit to UBC. The Drive u17 Elites are looking real nice.

Once you commit to a school you are not eligible to play AAU in your grade 12 year. Since CIS doesn't officially have letters of intent it is a bit of a grey area but the intent is quite clear. Players who have committed should not be playing.

From what updates I saw atleast 2 "CIS-committed" BC players Mindy Minhas-Drive/UBC and Kosia Kauw-BasketbalBC/TWU played on the floor at the NW Premier Spring Showcase this weekend. Does that mean they are no longer "committed" to their CIS schools?

With regarding to Kosia Cauw playing for Basketball BC. I know he's allowed to play despite being committed to TWU for 2 reasons:

1. He is age eligible.
2. He will be representing BC in the National Championships

From a little research, Kosia is still 16 years old according to BC Boys Basketball website. And on Basketball BC's website it states players who turn 17 that are still in grade 12 are good to play.

"Players who turn 17 in 2014, and will graduate from Grade 12 are still eligible for participation on the U17 Provincial Team." - Basketball BC

LANGARA FALCONS MEN’S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCE 2014-15 RECRUITS

The Langara men’s basketball team is pleased to announce 4 new recruits who will be joining the team in September. With 8 returning players from last years National Championship team Coach Eberhardt is excited with his batch of new recruits who will add to the teams depth at every position.
The first recruit is Montell Lindgren a 6’1” point guard from Duchess Park in Prince George. Montell led his team to back to back BC Championship appearances in 2012 & 2013 and was a three year starter for the BC U15, U16, & U17 teams. Montell is an ultra quick, pass first point guard who will fit very well in to Coach Ebe’s up-tempo offensive schemes. “Montell was a main recruit for us in 2013 and we are very excited that he has decided to come after taking last year off. He is a highly skilled player who can run a fast break offense and defend with great ball pressure.”
The Falcons have also added some height and skill to their front line with the addition of 6’8” forward, Abubakar Khan. Abu played for the Vancouver College Fighting Irish and helped lead them to back to back Final Four appearances in 2011 and 2012. After high school he attended Western Washington where he was a redshirt practice player for the Vikings. He has the largest wing span on the team and he is a great shot blocker and rebounder, he also has a variety of moves and a great touch on offense. “Abu will help at the defensive end with our help side defense and will give us a version of the twin towers when he plays alongside Jitinder Lohcham. I have also been very impressed with Abu in our open runs and fitness sessions,” said Coach Eberhardt.
Langara has also added a great defensive player and rebounder with the addition of 6’1” perimeter player, Brandon Tait. Brandon is one of Coach Ebe’s former players from Palmer Secondary School where he played on the 2008 Final Four Team and the 5th place team in 2009. Brandon also represented his Province on the U16 team. Brandon entered the work force after high school but has very much missed basketball and has decided to return to study and play at Langara. “Brandon is a high character guy who has an amazing work ethic,” said Eberhardt. “He is an amazing defender and relentless rebounder and I am very excited to be coaching him again.”
The last player joining the Falcons will be 5’11” combo guard, Sukhraj Biring from the Tamanawis Wildcats. Sukhraj played a key role in his team’s 3rd place finish at the 4A BC Championships this year. Sukh is a smooth shooting guard with deep range who also has the ability to play the point guard position with his strong ball-handling skills. “Sukh has been one of our hardest workers in our development sessions,” noted Eberhardt. “He has shown steady improvement and I will be very excited to watch his progress.”

“We will be working very hard in the off season to prepare to try and defend both our Pacwest and CCAA Championships,” said coach Ebe. “I believe these four players will help us in our goal.”
