Predictions of players and coaches that should be expected to be on each all star team for junior and senior. And thoughts on whose conference is stronger in both perspectives.

Typically, the coaches will be one from the east and one from the west that made it the furthest in the playoffs. Should they be unable to coach, then the organizer moves down the list until someone is able to volunteer their time. The way it works for players is that there is usually three guys per team that made it to the finals, two from each team that qualified for the playoffs, and one for each team otherwise. I believe tier two only send one player regardless if they made the playoffs or finals. At that point, there is an official tryout (usually two or three practices) where the coaches take 12 players to participate in the game. These 12 players get a uniform and some other nice gifts that the organizers is able to provide through sponsorships etc. There is also usually a media luncheon where one or two players from each team and the coach attend. It really is done up well. The game likely will not take place until May.

Hi Coach, a couple of questions:

Will you coach the West team?

Are there any limits on the 12 who make the team? Theoretically, could the coach take all 3 from the team that made the finals and 2 from a series of teams that made the playoffs or is there some balance required among the 12 as well?

Coach C,

Thanks for informing the forum of the guidelines, you should know it by now having coached the last few years. I'm just confirming a date with Carleton U and will be in May, will hopefully be finalized early this week. Your breakdown is accurate from a player representation side.

As for coaches, the invites were extended and accepted by the following staffs:

Jr. East - Mark MacKay - St. Peter
Jr. West - James Marshall - Sacred Heart
Sr. East - Sarah Morris - LBP
Sr. West - Brian Cameron - St. Paul

As for selection, it's based on the coaching staff and of course can include all 3 players from 1 or 2 schools. I encourage they include a few other coaches from other schools during try-outs for some additional input. We obviously want the best players, the only suggestion I make is that if it's close between a grade 11 and 12 is they take the 12 because in theory he's supposed to graduate and the grade 11 player has another year. Same in junior between grade 9 and grade 10 player. Ultimately, we would like as many schools represented but we know there will be numerous left out.

I've been running the game since 96 and believe it's been working well. Never going to please everyone but we try. Looking forward to a great night of hoops - stay tuned for date.

I've now confirmed May 11th at Carleton University for the Corporate Hype HS All-Star Classic. Schools should be receiving information this week outlining try-out dates and locations. These should be very competitive try-outs and some tough decisions for all the coaching staffs. Rogers TV is going to be televising both games, should be a entertaining night of hoops!!

Why not hold the game on a Saturday when more people are able to attend?

The problem is many of the potential all-stars play "Club Ball" which is now in full swing. Most of the teams are playing in tournaments/provincials every week-end in May.

The guidelines will be forwarded Monday to all the respective coaches/AD's outlining how many players/team will be allowed to attend the try-outs. Each coach will identify and inform their player/s, as well the respective All-Star team coach so he/she will know the prospective players coming out. As mentioned in other posts all Tier 1 teams (Junior and Senior) who made finals and semi's are eligible to send (3) players, all play-off teams in Tier 1 (Junior and Senior) (2) players, all remaining non-play-off teams in Tier 1 (Junior and Senior) as well as all Tier 2 (Junior/Senior) teams are to send (1) player.

The try-out schedules are:

Junior East – April 26, 27 and 28 and 4:30-6:30pm St. Peter
Junior West – April 27, 28 and 29 4:30-6:00pm Sacred Heart
Senior East – April 26, 27 and 28 4:30-6:00pm Lester B Pearson
Senior West – April 26, 28 and 29 4:30-6:00pm St. Paul

I'm sure there will be some very tough choices, congratulations on being selected and good luck making the team.

I will definitely post final rosters - all the try-outs are under way and I'm sure the coaching staffs will have some tough decisions to make by the end of the week. I have to go with the West in both games with SH players leading the way...lol!!

The West has a lot more height than the East and some very skilled guard play as well. I predict a 15 point West win

Congrats to everyone. Nice to see Sherif Bah representing Deslaurier. Awesome kid. I also agree with the statement that the west seem stronger in every aspect. But we all know that sometime talent alone doesn’t win game.

no offense to Brookfield Jr's but how did they finish 4-4 and get 3 spots on All Star with SH only taking 2 spots and SRB only landing 1 and they were the West finalists?

Seems odd to me.

It really depends on the coach and what their image of what the team should look like is. Mehdi and Christian both got cut from the Senior East all star team and in my opinion they should have made it but this was a coaches decision.

Always is a coaches decision, just some surprising choices is all. Maybe there were other circumstances involved with some players missing try-outs or something.

Kinda surprised in Sr. to see no Vic or Amin in the West and only 1 St Matt's make is even though they made OFSAA

Did Amin even try out? I'm guessing Jamal was the 3rd guy from SRB

Amin was the third person sent from SRB but he could not make any of the tryouts because of work commitments.
