PostSubject: Final 4A Boys Ranking   Thu Feb 27, 2014 10:27 am

Wow! How do you pick the final top ten ranking for this Monday? LCI and Jasper Place have lost multiple times in Feb and need to drop out of the top 10. Magrath has also lost multiple games this month and should also fall out. Ross Shep has lost to St FX and a few others and can no longer be #1.Bev Facey just lost to McNally from Edmonton and have to drop. HA has lost this month. Lacombe just lost to O'Byrne in Calgary this week. How do you rank the top 10 now??

I would move O'Leary back to #1. Medicine Hat needs to move up by being undefeated in the South. McNally from Calgary should move up as they have not lost in Feb. Churchill from Calgary should move into the top 10 after a strong Feb. Should St FX be considered after a win over Ross Shep? Cardston just topped Magrath.

Thoughts everyone? Provincials should be a dogfight!!

PostSubject: Metro Playoffs   Fri Feb 28, 2014 12:35 am

Relax about a couple upsets, those teams probably rested players.......the Metro Division I Quarterfinal Playoffs go Monday and the top 4 seeds will all win at home:
#1 Ainlay over # 8 Paul Kane
#2 O'Leary over # 7 McNally
# 3 Shep over # 6 St.FX
#4 Facey over # 5 Jasper Place

Should a couple of classic semifinals on Wednesday!

Its not about whether the top four seeds in Edmonton will win their first playoff game or not, it is how the final rankings of the province affect the wild card selections and how the provincial tournament gets seeded. Both very important. Edmonton has been seeded too high as a group and need to slide with their losses just as the rest of the province does. As stated earlier, I still think an Edmonton team will be #1 but some need to drop out of the top 10 and others need to move down. EVERY loss counts at the end of the season just as it does at the start.

Not sure how anyone can say that the Edmonton Zone is over rated when it is clearly the top zone in the province. Just went through the scores on ENET and here are the stats:
Edmonton's Top 4 teams vs South are 12-2.
That includes Shep, Ainlay and Facey all beating Magrath, Cardston & Raymond. Cardston did split with Shep and LCI beat Ainlay.

Edmonton's Top 4 teams vs Calgary are 7-0. Must be games missing as I would have guessed more games than that.

In addition teams like Jasper Place, Paul Kane, St.FX & Percy Page all have quality results (wins & close losses) against teams from the south & Calgary.

Only Losses to Alberta teams:
Ainlay-to LCI and Shep by 2
O'Leary-to Ainlay by 16 without their PG
Shep-to Ainlay by 10, O'Leary by 1 & Cardston
Facey-to Ainlay in OT, to Shep by 2, O'Leary twice and McNally with players out

If you notice losses to teams outside of Edmonton are limited to TWO!

Come on man!
Edmonton gets a wildcard bid in a heartbeat, should be 2 but I doubt that would happen with the 4A's being in the South.

If I'm missing games due to them not being posted PLEASE post so we all know. I'd love to hear anyone's thought's as to how Edmonton teams should slide.......

No one said Edmonton would not get a wild card. Edmonton and Calgary always get one and should always get one. Two is not going to happen. The questions was who is playing the best RIGHT NOW. Edmonton teams, other than O'Leary, have been losing and teams like Medicine Hat and McNally from Calgary have been winning everything in February. I would also have lumped Lacombe into this group but they have also just lost their first league game of the year. Sooooo the question was and still is... How far should these teams like Med Hat and McNally move up and how far should some Edmonton teams slide? Jasper Place in the top ten is just wrong and LCI have also lost a bunch in Feb and should also drop out. Magrath have lost games to the top teams all year and at best are a OM. Cardston was ranked initially by reputation alone and shouldn't even be a thought. This leaves room for a big shake up in the final rankings but I would bet that very little will change. Anyone want to list their top ten before they come out on Monday?

These rankings don't mean anything anyways because whatever happens in each zones playoffs will ultimately determine where each team is seeded

Since last ranking though

I don't know how shep can be so high

They have 3 losses
Sure loses to ainlay and oleary shouldn't drop you lots

But a loss to unranked FX should

Also since last rank
Ainlay is 2-1 vs ranked teams (wins vs shep and facey but loss to shep too) but move up ?

Oleary is 4-0 or 5-0 against ranked teams since last rank and win over #1 shep

Facey lost to ainlay, oleary and unranked McNally

FX beat shep

Jp lost to oleary since last rank and Paul Kane

Paul Kane
Beat Jp but lost to oleary twice and lci

Calgary father lacombe has lost 2 times since last rank

Bishop McNally hasn't lost

Churchills only loss to oleary
But beat lci

10 manning

Hm

The top 5

1. Harry Ainlay
2. Archbishop O'Leary
3. Medicine Hat
4. Bishop McNally
5. Ross Shep

After that its hard to separate any of the teams. Seems to be the same ranking problem as 3A which will make for some interesting games at provincials but the teams who will be the semi finals will be predictable.

FINAL rankings are out and I have to admit that the committee did a decent job. There needed to be some movement of teams based upon February results and there was.

1.Ainlay
2.O'Leary
3.McNally
4.Med Hat
5.Ross Shep
6.Facey
7.Lacombe
8.Churchill
9.LCI
10.OByrne

PostSubject: Metro Semifinals   Sat Mar 08, 2014 5:58 pm

So from all reports both the Metro Edmonton semifinals were great games! O'Leary tried to run and Shep tried to slow it down and it ends up in a 5 point OL win.....bigger bench for OL helps them a lot.
Heard the Ainlay 106-99 win over Facey was a good one and that it could have gone the other way if the big kid from Facey doesn't roll an ankle in the 3rd quarter.

Who wins the final tonight?

When do Shep & Facey play for the 3/4 seeds?

Exciting game last night between Ainlay and Oleary, took half way through the first quarter for ainlay to get comfortable after that it was all ainlay. They locked up first in province, cannot wait for provincials!!!! final score was 85-71

All 4 of those teams will be a handful at provincials.

Results from Calgary playoffs last night.

Manning knocked off Churchill in OT 85-83, Lacombe beat Western 70-60, McNally beat Forest Lawn 98-74 and Crescent Heights upset BOB 79-73. Manning is at Lacombe and Crescent is at McNally on Thursday night.

So are these the 4 teams that will represent Calgary at 4A Provincials?
Bishop McNally/Crescent Heights/Father Lacombe/Manning

I see that Bev Facey beat Ross Shep 68-66 so Facey will be #3 from Edmonton and Shep #4.

The South started tonight-does anyone have results??

What is happening in the other zones?

Med Hat High and Chinook in first semi final tonight. LCI and Cardston in the other. Other than possibly the Chinook/Magarth game which ended up at 10, none of the games were really all that close.
