With tryouts ongoing & tournaments right around the corner, thought it would be the right time to start up this thread. There's been a big void to fill in the player market since allBall is no more and looks like a number of players from other clubs have moved over to Drive.

Looks like the first big tournament is the NW Premier Showcase April 25-27 in Bellevue, WA.

Do share any information about clubs.

Looks like the BC coaches decided to go big with the roster they selected, as it looks like they they have only 2 true guards in Batiste and Tubbs, to go with 10 forwards. It will be interesting to see how the team plays with all those forwards but Coach Goulet should be able to get the best out of them and hopefully they can bring home a medal this summer.

Can any of the evaluators or spectators of the u17 bbc super camp comment on why it was not Jumari from fox and Grey from oak bay that was chosen. from what i hear the two were the best pg out there with more experience in senior ball having 2 yrs each starting for their Sr squad as gr 10 and 11. Was it because of height?

I was not present during the super camp, but Ebe did write on another post that Matt Gray is on the team as an 'Alternate' due to an injury.

Just to set the record straight. Jeff Tubbs has started every game (grade 10 and 11) for the senior team at Mt Boucherie

Are you really setting the record straight by listing down that Tubbs was the MVP of his UBCO Heat Club team?

I am sure if you compare accolades for Grey and Jumari you would be surprised to see far more accomplishments than MVP for club team...how about any other major tournaments or championships he led his team to? any all-stars or mvp's in a tournament? Any championships he has led his team? I think if you are gonna set the record straight on past performance the two boys are far more accomplished.

Was it really all about height?

what about court vision?
Or true point guard who can make the boys look good because the point knows how to distribute?

I wonder how the other boys or parents feel about this since most of those boys have played with Jumari and Grey.

Can i get some comment from the ones that were there?

I was there for the whole try out. Matt unfortunately got hurt early. Jomari played well, is a great player and is a great kid. I think it was a tough decision for the coaches.

What is the point of comparing past accolades? I was just correcting your assumption that the kid chosen doesn't have as much experience playing Sr ball. It was a 16 hour try out where the kids were on the same court playing against each other.

I would suggest watching the kids play before disagreeing with the selections. Especially kids you have never seen play before.

Speculating that they chose point guards based on height is kind of ridiculous in my opinion.

I'm not saying the decision was right or wrong as Jomari can obviously play. I am saying at least watch a game or two before giving your opinion.

I thought Drive had three U17 teams but when I checked they only have one now. Anybody know what happened?

It's great to see the schedules for everyone but the interesting thing to me is why if Drive is hosting a tournament isn't basketball bc going or were they not invited. When are the grown ups going to act like adults and let the kids play. It sure would be nice to be able to watch a good tournament in BC and not have to drive down south when we have such great players here. If the LEC is the home of Basketball BC why aren't they hosting a tournament in that wonderful facility? Things that make you go hummm  afro

I am correct in that it appears as if Allball has merged with Vancouver Sports Club?

Because it's time the clubs and BBC got together and put forth the best provincial team possible. Not everyone can play at the same club / BBC so they should play all spring then hold a provincial team tryout in July to go to the nationals. Instead, they hold grudges and work against each other...such as BBC not going in Drive tourneys. Time to lock them all in a room and do what is best for basketball in BC.

I think it would be good if we could get the heads of the organizations together and figure something out (might just be a dream) because there isn't a hoop fan in BC that would be against seeing a great tournament in our own province show casing some of our top players. I see nothing wrong with that at all and I challenge anyone out there to say other wise. We are always telling the players to play their hardest and hold nothing back and leave it all on the court, well how about we get them on the court. afro

They are on the court from nov-march during high school basketball season. The off season is just that...the time of the year where they improve their skills for the high school season. Let the kids choose how they want to develop during that time.
