ABall based on results I am surprised you didn't mention St. Francis Xavier Edmonton? They lost to Ross Sheppard by 4 in overtime in semifinal and then beat Francis Calgary by 14 in 3rd place game. Thoughts on them?

Yes, I should have mentioned them as they looked much stronger than everyone had said. SFX is always well coached and have to be considered in the mix in the Edmonton zone as well.

Pretty accurate I would say the Rams are looking good early. Missing Med Hat though they will be top 10

Bishop McNally lost to Father Lacombe in the Calgary Basketball Classic, so that might affect their respective rankings

Shep is in the final of Totem vs. A inlay. They did not lose to Leduc. Leduc lost to Paul Kane in 1st game of Totem then won consolation final vs. Scona

My bad. Who won the Totem final and how was it? My earlier predictions will change slightly with the winner taking #1, LCI #2, and loser #3.

Well from looking at the shep site since I didn't head up shep won pretty big now I can't know anything with out being there but I wonder if Ainlay and magrath were a little drained and that was why shep won so much since magrath and Ainlay was a 3 point game

Watched semis and finals at Totem. Ross Shep are simply the top team in Edmonton right now. Ainlay did not look good against Magrath and less than good against Shep. My top five would look like this:
1/2 Ross Shep/SWC {Both undefeated}
3.LCI {have they played anyone good yet?}
4.Ainlay {will need to play better to stay in top 5}
5.O'leary

And no LCI hasn't played any top 10 teams yet they've beat a weak Raymond team easily at home, tough to rank them near the top so far based on players/reputation and not wins/teamwork but no doubt they'll be in the mix this year for the Zone and Province

Who are the top players out of the south? I could see lci losing because they lack depth and that was their problem lat year aswell. The team with the most strong players in the south would be Cardston and med hat has only a couple returning players but they will grow as a team and they have a big size advantage this year. It's hard to predict now who the top team will be out of the south come provincials.

Everyone knows rankings are severely flawed and biased

Couple things you can gaurantee are

1) whoever is on ranking committee - their teams are pretty much given spots

2) teams with " reputations " will be given special treatment

For example - what are the rankings base on
Has anyone ever given criteria ?

Based on this years results ???
If
So why would ainlay even be in the top 10 then with a 3-1 record ?
And if try are ranked high - what is it based on
The fact they did well
Last year ?
Then what about med hat, lci, oleary and shep who all finished top 5 last year?

Is it based just on this years results ?

Them what does it go on? Overall record ? 10-0 #1
Is 9-1 better than 7-3 if 9-1 played just bottom feeders and 7-3 played tough teams?
Any how do you determine
Average / good/ strong teams ???

Realistically rankings shouldn't come out until after Xmas or 3 weeks of tourneys and 4-5 league games

Swc undefeated yes

And might realistically be top 5

But have they played any edm or south teams ?

What if edm has 4 teams better than any of the Calgary teams ?

What if south is better than edm teams ?

How can anyone at this point say an lci is better or worse than a shep ?

Have they even played ANY similar opponents ????

ASAA rankings are flawed in the same way the NCAA rankings are flawed. Bottom line is that its not going to change and it still has to happen. I don't think you can say that rankers last year were biased towards their teams as their teams didn't do so well. You could make a small case if their teams were in the mix and jostling for position but I don't think that happened last year and I don't think that will happen this year. The undefeated teams with the most games and the toughest schedules are SWC from Calgary and Shep from Edmonton but I don't put them alone at the top. The top tier of teams has to be LCI, HA, SWC, Shep as of right now. Part of that is scores, Part of that is pt dif. Part of that is guessing on expectations at this stage of the year. I admit my placing of these four teams is biased towards the lone south team but thats what I think. I don't believe anyone can handle the LCI combo of Saren Westrop and Mason Gibb. From what I've already seen, this team is a lot deeper than what people are expecting. HA is based on what they did last year, what people have told me about this year and what I saw from their top players in the past. Its an opinion based on a sketchy set of criteria that I'm going to go with. SWC and Shep are based on what they've done this year. You could make a case that they should be 1, 2 and that could very well be right.

The next Tier has to be St Francis Xavier with multiple losses to Shep, Father Lacombe with multiple losses to SWC and Paul Kane with a big loss to Shep, Bishop McNally with losses to Father Lacombe and SWC, Oleary with multiple losses to to Shep and BOB with losses to SWC and and Father Lacombe.

We still don't have all the scores on exnet (ie. Medicine Hat High) but we do know all the scores for the Mike Dea, District 4 and Calgary Classic which are online. Add the missing scores to the exnet scores and we have a good idea as to where teams sit as of right now. The next 7 days should give us more of an idea as we head into the first ranking week.

1. LCI
2. HA
3. SWC
4. Shep
5. St Francis Xavier
6. Father Lacombe
7. Bishop McNally
8. Paul Kane
9. Oleary
10. BOB

HM JP
HM Cardston
HM EM
HM St Francis
HM Bishop Grandin

Why Harry ainlay ahead of shep ?
Why lci ahead of anyone ?
Why FX in top 10
Why lacombe and McNally ahead of oleary
Why bob ahead of cardston
?????

Are we going merely
On names
And reps?

Then cchs should be top 10
Their coach always does rankings

Why would you put
Lacombe and McNally ahead of
Oleary ?
If lacombes multiple losses are to swc who is worse than shep
And mvnallys to swc and lacombe ?

You're basing some of your rankings on "players "
Teams have
Them OGOT boys are a tandem
Like gibb and saren ? Who did more than saren and gibb last year ?

Why is ainlay even in top
10
At all ten with what. A 4-1 record ?
I'm
Sure there are lots more teams with better records

I'm going off of 2 posted scores for HA. If they are 4-1 they're missing 3 scores. A loss would change things. Why don't you fill us in on their missing scores?

Look at Oleary's scores and then look at Lacombe and McNally's. I initially thought Oleary would be top 2 but with the scores they've posted they aren't unless you're saying that Edmonton is in a class all by themselves in the province. They clearly aren't.

Ainlay lost to Shep at Totem Hoop. They also only beat Magrath by 3. The scores for Totem Hoop are posted on Shep's athletic website. I still think Ainlay is a top 5 4A team.
