Edmonton did finish 1st, 2nd and 4th at provincials last year. So they might not be in a class of their own but they right now are the strongest zone to start the year.

Games between zones:

Oleary Edmonton beat St Francis Calgary
St. FX Edmonton beat St. Francis Calgary
Bev Facey Edmonton beat Western Canada Calgary
Oleary Edmonton beat Winston Churchill South
Ross Sheppard Edmonton beat Catholic Central South
Ross Sheppard Edmonton beat Magrath South
Paul Kane Edmonton beat Magrath South
Med Hat South lost to Ernest Manning Calgary
Med Hat South lost to Bishop Grandin Calgary

What other significant results have there been between zones?

REB tourney should provide lots of information with Jasper Place, Ross Sheppard, Oleary, Paul Kane, LCI, Bishop McNally and BOB all in it. Probably 7 top 15 ranked teams in Alberta.

There hasn't been any games between the contenders from different zones. You could add that Sturgeon lost to SWC 87-43 but that doesn't tell us anything either.

The REB will help. If LCI loses to Paul Kane or Oleary I'm wrong. If McNally loses to SPA I'm wrong. If Ross Shepard doesn't beat McNally I'm wrong. As the tournament progresses we should get an idea of how the zones stack up.

It all comes down to the "body of work" to date. LCI cannot be #1 as they have not played anyone strong as of yet. The Reb should change that. Ainlay has only played one contender and they lost that game but you have to give them top five based on talent. Shep has to be considered 1 or 2 based upon playing some strong teams and being undefeated. SWC has to be 1 or 2 based upon playing strong teams and also being undefeated.

I've seen LCI play and I've seen Oleary play. No comparison. Not even close. A 20-30 point spread. Edmonton is not as strong as Edmontonians would have everyone believe. I'm still giving them 3 of the top 5 but this weekend could change that if McNally represents and beats RS and then FL, BM and BOB jump the line and Calgary has 4 of the top 5 in the first ranking. LCI will drop PK and OL easily and will be #1 in the first ranking. And the Leduc girls beat RS, not the boys. Proof read and hit send only once. It should also be noted that body of work does not refer to playing 20 games before the new year. Top 10 updated with more scores submitted:

1. LCI
2. SWC
3. Ross Shepard
4. StFX (loss to RS)
5. HA (loss to RS)
6. Father Lacombe (losses to SWC)
7. Bishop McNally (losses to SWC, loss to FL)
8. BOB (losses to SWC, loss to FL)
9. Cardston
10. Oleary (losses to RS and really sketchy wins over weak teams)

HM JP
HM PK
HM EM
HM St Francis
HM Bishop Grandin

Semi finals at the REB predictions
LCI vs Kelowna
McNally vs Mount Vernon

knows not one thing about basketball

just check Reb website and you'll see

LCI is lucky if they are a top 30 team in alberta

you are right - no comparison - PK, Oleary, JP, all of edmonton is 20-30 pts better than LCI

PROOF READ THIS

PAUL KANE "KILLS" "DESTROYS" LCI
20 points - first game
- good trip for LCI

- shows how the south is a joke - and maybe deserves 1 - max 2 teams at provincials

any other words to describe it?

also Oleary lost by 25 to shep in a bad game - but then responded in a 2-3 point game against them the next day I think

LCI would likely forfeit before the game started - if forced to play - it would probably be 103 - 47 - my NBA 2014 simulator predicts that

also Ball is life - what has FX done to be ranked higher than Ainlay, Oleary, JP?
- losing to shep in OT is the highlight of the season for you?

I saw them clobber loydmister - so maybe thats why they are 4th in alberta - when do they play Misercordia Hospital so they can move up to #2 or #3?

please explain FX results better than those 3

There is no question that LCI did not look good and will need to drop out of the top 4-5 with the bad loss. They still have enough talent to be considered in the top 10. I didn't feel that PK even played that well.

That was a brutal performance by LCI. Poor game plan, poor execution and a poor effort. Not the same team that played earlier this week. I'm surprised at how badly they played and how badly they were coached. Truly embarrassing. They need to win out and hope someone else tanks this weekend if they hope to stay at the bottom of the top 10. Good news for RS and SWC if they can keep the pace.

Lots of big games this weekend still. Shep and Churchill looking like easy 1 and 2 picks. Bishop McNally could do Calgary a huge favour by knocking off Shep. JP barely squeaked by Western today with a 1 point win. So JP has wins vs. Bellerose and Western plus 5 losses to American teams and 1 loss to Shep. Oleary has 2 losses to Shep and 10 wins vs. Weaker opponents. St. FX has 1 overtime loss to Shep and 7 wins vs. Weaker opponents. Paul Kane has losses to Shep and Leduc but knocked off LCI and Magrath.

This weekend Oleary plays Pk, Shep plays bishop McNally, bob will play either Oleary or Pk, scona plays med hat, McNally plays saint Fran cgy, st.fx plays ainlay,

South is the weakest zone right now. Edmonton looks the strongest but the Shep vs. Bishop McNally game could shine some light on Calgary. Thoughts?

Yes I think those are good points
Main point being that this weekend must tell the tale
A ranking today will not mean as much as one of Monday when all the dust is settled and big games like shep vs McNally are played
Oleary vs Paul Kane are played
FX vs Ainlay are played

Scona vs Medicine Hat maybe not so much as scona is likely a non playoff team in edmonton and Medicine Hat might be a non provincial team
From
South

So using those scores is like saying
Pearson beat Salisbury so lets rank Calgary and Pearson high

I think the rankers know players and potentials of teams as well
This is why you will see teams like cardston and ainlay always ranked
No matter what

OK, I'll be the first one to admit that the Calgary zone is stronger than I thought. I had Shep ranked at the top as I thought they played in the toughest zone. McNally's play this morning changed things dramatically. I now think that we will see two Calgary teams in the top three in Alberta when the rankings come out.

1. SWC {still undefeated}
2. McNally {strong win over Shep}
3. Ross Shep {still top Edmonton team}

That was a big win. Not only for them but for Father Lacombe too. Assuming OL and McNally lose in the semis and McNally wins 3rd, and as long as SWC and FL win wherever they are, you'll see Calgary 1, 2, 3 in the first ranking. SWC, FL and BM in that order. Shep has to win their last 2 to maintain a 4th spot.

Ainlay is the top team in the province without a doubt. Had the pleasure of watching the Totem Hoops final and Aher of Ainlay is a absolute man amongst boys he is looking like he could play CIS right now and i don't mean play, I mean PLAY. Would not disagree if I was told he was the best player in the province. Marvin did not have a good showing had poor shot selection and wasn't hitting anything. Awak injured himself earlier in the tournament wasn't told if it was first or second game. So take the Ross Shep game with a grain of salt.

With that said, Shep is a very strong team this year I really like how Coach Young always puts a formidable team out there. They have a lot of heart and seemed to get to a ton of lose balls and just hit more shots then Ainlay. This game was close the whole time until 4th quarter. Ainlay got it down to 7 point game and just didn't have the fire power

ps. too anyone complaining about Ainlay getting ranked high merely off of reputation. They have 2 player in aher and awak that were invited to Team Canada's preliminary camp so I'd say it is safe to say they should be there.

12321 I'm curious to know who LCI played earlier this week that caused you to think they were 20 points better than o leary? Was it just a weak opponent that made them look like a top tier team or was LCI doing thing a in that game that they didn't/weren't able to do against Paul Kane. I was surprised with the pk outcome as well I just wonder if they had an off game. Either way it doesn't look good. As far as I can tell this was their first game against even a half decent team. Big wins against raymond and chinook will most likely come easy to many schools this year.

Massive upset at St. Francis tournament. Aberhart beat Fr. Lacombe 91-68. Lacombe looked bad on defense.

St . Francis over HTA 73-65. St Francis plays William Aberhart in the final after they beat Fr. Lacombe 91-68 earlier today.

WOW! BOB up almost 30 on Ross Shep at the half. Shep looks very average when they shoot poorly and their fast break is taken away. I'm definitely re-thinking the Calgary zone.

LCI had only played 2 games coming in against weaker south teams and it was evident. I think they did show what they were capable of after the first game. Big shake up in the top 10 after this weekend. It will be interesting to look through the scores and see what we have for the first ranking period. Those scores should all be in by Tuesday.

We all
Know these rankings are gonna be weird
And ainlay will be like
5-7 ranked
Even thou they aren't gonna lose
Again for the rest of the year

So whoever 1 is - enjoy it for like a few weeks

Then lci will still
Manage to get a high rank (as usual)

Somehow father lacombe will
Be top 3 even though they got smacked by Abe
Who they thought would be easy way to final

Just make a rank and out in brackets (until ainlay tries )

I would be very surprised if Lacombe is ranked in the top 3 ... already lost 3 times to Sir Wnston Churchill
