Game on Tuesday Dec.30/14
Burnaby South 82 @ Holy Cross 81
BS-Jermaine Haley 34p, Tyus Batiste 15p, Roshan Bhatti 12p
HC-Taylor Browne 32p, Jerome Santiago 14p, Keegan Konn 13p

Good to be back in the gym after a week off games for the Holiday season. A good game to come back to featuring two of BCs best graduating players in Haley and Browne. The Rebels started the game off strong with great transition play leading to easy baskets to give them an early edge. Batiste and Santiago were both spark plugs for there respective teams with there speed and energy, while Haley had some deft passes into the inside for Bhatti who played big and Browne was aggressive from the start at getting to the basket as he went to the line more than a dozen times. The last 30sec of the half saw 4 techs get called as players were jawing each other back and forth and a couple physical plays led to some tempers flaring up. South was in control for 3 qtr up 5-10p but as the 4th qtr came around, HCs shots began to fall more often as they closed the gap. HC would take its first lead with 2min remaining in the game off a Konn 3 but was matched by a Batiste 3 late. Haley and Browne were both aggressive the last 2 min getting to the hole through contact and each hitting multiple FTs to finish, a Konn 3 fell short with under 10sec to play and the #1 Bby South Rebels squeeze by to finish the year still undefeated.

Game on Monday Jan.05/2015

Holy Cross 64 @ Heritage Woods 57
HC- Taylor Browne 22p, Keegan Konn 12p, Nigel Kuma-Mintah 9p
HW-Jonah Devereaux 19p, Cordell Parker 13p, Jacob McMahon 7p

Sloppy game with boys missing from both sides for various reasons. Lots of TOs and missed shots in the game as both teams seemed to look to get some rust out after winter break. HWs Devereaux kept the Kodiaks in the game with jumpers from all over the floor, while Browne was effective throughout for the Crusaders getting to the basket and hitting from outside. But HCs depth having 10 players on the scoresheet and a 23-7 edge in bench production proved to be the difference on the night.

Games on Tuesday Jan.06-2015

Holy Cross 86 @ LA Matheson 66
HC - Taylor Browne 31p, Keegan Konn 17p, Nigel Kuma-Mintah 8p
Matheson - Gurbant Dhaliwal 22p, Ajay Aujia 21p, Mark Leonardo 8p

Kitsilano 103 @ Walnut Grove 114
Yale 91 Lord Tweedsmuir 61
Pitt Meadows 69 New Westminster 29

Last night #1 Terry Fox defeated #2 Oak Bay in a game of two halves. Oak Bay led 40-32 at the half but a determined Fox team stormed out after the break in a dominant third quarter to take the win 72-58. Fox lost the Beagle MVP Liam Hancock to injury two minutes into the game, and were able to flex their depth to pull out the win.

Secondary to the game was the outstanding celebration of life tribute to Mr. Erich Buecker after the game. Mr. Buecker was truly Mr. Fox and I was glad to see a full gym of the basketball community out last night to pay tribute to him. Erich volunteered countless hours to the basketball and athletic community at Fox, and one can see how the school and students are richer for it. I, for one, will miss not seeing Erich at basketball events and especially whenever I take in a game at Fox.

Lastly, I would like to remind everyone how important volunteers are to this great game, and in Erich's honor please try and thank them for all they do so we can either play, or enjoy watching more great basketball action in this province.

Just an update on the Mcmath Wildcats tournament.

Mcmath #6(AAA) beat unranked Brittannia (AA) in a really close game by 12.
-Brit shot the lights out (don't know how they aren't ranked AA)
-really close game until Sam Evanson took over with about two minutes left in the game. Finished with 25

Mcmath beat Abbotsford #1(AAA) in another really close game and ended up winning by 12
-I believe Chase Claypool had about 30/10
-Evanson with about 20 to lead Mcmaths balance attack.

They will most likely play Fleetwood Park in the finals tomorrow whom they have already beat by 18.

After this week if Mcmath wins, They should probably take the #1 seed in AAA
