PostSubject: U17 Provincial Teams   Mon Mar 29, 2010 2:59 pm

The tryouts are approaching for the U17s. Any thoughts who might make it? These are the 12 I see making it:

David Wagner - South Kam
Nakai Luyken - Yale
Adams Obakpee - Dover Bay
Malcolm Williams - Pitt Meadows
Reiner Theil - Vancouver College
Billy Cheng - Palmer
Vijay Dhillon - Palmer
Wesley DeKleer - Argyle
Braxton Bunce - Kelowna
Cameron Smythe - Charles Tupper
Ater Degal - Burnaby South
Anton Bailey - Burnaby Mountain

Ater chose not to play provincial team last year, playing 3D instead...at least I think that was the case. Why would he play prov team this year?

Being 16 does not prevent someone playing on the U17 team. Typically 16 year old standouts have made past U17 Provincial Teams. Last Summer, Nakai was selected. Both Braxton and Cameron are talented big men.

PostSubject: Cam Smythe is not playing for BC   Wed Mar 31, 2010 9:48 pm

Cam Smythe is not playing for BC this year, his intentions this year are to bulk up and gain some weight in time when he is U17.

Cam Smythe definitely needs to bulk up! That's too bad, he would have had a good chance to make the team. He's already a good shot blocker and rebounder. I haven't seen too many 6'10" centres stroke the ball like him. He needs to work on a post game, but that will come with added muscle

Braxton is not playing on any Provincial team this year. He must
take it easy for awhile, he is not 100% from knee surgery from last summer.
He would be a great addition to U16 or the U17 teams.

PostSubject: Down some Big Men   Sat Apr 03, 2010 2:54 pm

The U16's are definitely going to be down a few big men.

David Manshreck
Kealan Wild
Cameron Smythe
Braxton Bunce

Those 4 are not playing for BC this year, apparently. However, I hear that Sajen Gill will not be participating with Drive this year, so he might take one of those spots.

I can understand why Braxton Bunce is not playing for a BC Provincial Team this year. In another post, shooter stated: "Braxton is not playing on any Provincial Team this year. He must take it easy for a while, he is not 100% from knee surgery from last summer."

David Manshreck and Kealan Wild are listed on the recent 3D Elite U16/U17 Selections. So at least it seems they will be playing on what appears to be a pretty good club team(s) this spring/summer and improving their basketball skills and experience.

What is Cameron Smythe planning to do this year? In another post, Textbook says: Cam Symthe is not playing for BC this year, his intentions this year are to bulk up and gain some weight in time when he is U17." Okay, but what is he planning to do to improve in basketball? Is he also intending to play on a club team or is he just planning to eat a lot and maybe go to the weight room?

PostSubject: Weak big men   Sun Apr 04, 2010 1:31 am

I think the U16 coaches are going to be stunned at how talented the big men are this year for the U16's. Seemingly, none of the big men are playing for BC this year.

Cam is playing baseball, is going to work with a big man coach, attend a few camps here and in the states and work out at Tupper. What is NIck Irvine doing?
