Rumour has it that the NB U16 boys are in a bit of trouble. Parents are a little concerned about the increase in fees (doubled from last summer) and only 3 tournaments , PEI, Halifax and Loyalists. No Montreal trip....so only 8 of the selected players have said they will play....BNB is left with only a few options
1) No U16 team
2) Take players cut from U17 team ( over agers)
3) Take players cut from U15 teams

They are also looking at giving the coaches some leeway with the schedule..ie bringing back Montreal trip for them and not going to the PEI one.....might fly in the face of an agreement made between provinces about all prov teams (PEI,NS and NB) attending each others tournaments.....

Also they are looking at going to team camps in eastern USA....

This is a big thing for BNB but i can see why parents are upset in the matter. With the lack of U16 players even attending tryouts this year, this even leaves next year U17 program in question. The kids who are not going to play hurt themseleves by not competing at a high level all summer. The best option would be to take U15 players that have been cut, but these players will not be ready for that type of playing, considering they have been cut from U15.

This definetly makes the U16 Team in difficult times.

PostSubject: U16 Boys Provincial Team   Thu May 13, 2010 11:52 am

If only 8 boys are committed enough to play then I would go with those 8 players. It would not be fair to those players if the team got dropped or to include players that are not of the same caliber. Doug is a good coach and will be able to help these boys develop, so I would let him. 8 committed players are better then 12 not committed. The whole goal of the U16 is to develop players for the following years U17.

Last summer the U15 Dev boys went to a camp with 7 players and played a ton of games. They won the camp championship, so this team would give Doug an extra body to take to tournaments, no telling how many he'll win.

Actually, the parents arent blaming everyone else for there kids actions. Some were showing how this could have been prevented, though a variety of ways. All in all, it was a good decision by BNB to dismiss these players and inforce the rules. Just for the record though, these are all good kids that just made a bad decision one night in PEI, and all of the boys confessed for the coach to recieve this information. Very respectable and the right thing to do just a few nights after the incident.
