Good point coach.red. I actually like the Turner kid the best of all of the Fredericton players. Very athletic and big upside.

Baller22W and Coach.Red Why are you on here criticizing 14 yr olds and calling them terrible? Make your predictions for summer teams, but it would be great if 14yr olds didn't have to come on here and read that they are terrible.

He's a good player, hope he makes a full recovery from his broken ankle.

He broke it just before Christmas, not sure if he'll be back before the end of high school season or not. It's a shame, he a great kid.

Last year this time (actually a week earlier) they had the coaches announced.

I haven't even seen a call for applications on the BNB website, and that is normally put out in October/November.

Ryan Chase and the Hickey's should be coaching U17 or u15.

I'd like to see Chase move up to U17 and get that program built for the Canada Games year. There will be a few underagers on the team this year he can work with.

If chase gets U17 which he should. who would be other candidates to do U15 & u16 teams?

If those guys wanted to give up their summers ( I don't think they have in the past) I'm sure they've got enough credentials between them that they would already meet most of the requirements or could easily get them. BNB is always wanting more quality and experienced coaches to make up staffs and head teams. Anyone of these guys would be a great candidate to be involved with BNB. Coaching provincially is as eye opening and positive learning experience for coaches, as it is for players and families.

Coach.Red I did read your statement. You agreed to the statement, so that is still criticizing a 14 yr old. Different terminology does not get you off the hook.

I am curious to know what kinder word you would have used then. Also curious to see how you are leaving a 6'3 player who has some range off a U15 team that lacks size.

PostSubject: The why can't we be friends post.   Wed Jan 27, 2016 4:18 pm

Maybe we should come at this a different way.

Current issues the conversation faces:
1 - The internet is never going to agree on an appropriate level/way/tone/language to criticize individuals that avoids upsetting everyone.

2 - Assuming over the course of discussion about potential provincial team players we are going to end up with more than 12 names.

3- Board users potentially include everyone on the planet with access to the internet.

4 - We need a way compare/contrast and evalute players to have a measured authentic conversation.

My possible solution:

Throw as many potential players names in the pool as you want, but present your argument based on criteria that you would use to select the team.

We should probably start by establishing some guidelines like the team can only have 12 people, they probably aren't all going to be 5'0 pg's etc.

Then come up with a starting point. I suggest our starting point be the collective answers to this question." If you were selecting players for a provincial team, what would be the 3 first questions you would want answered to determine candidate viability and to start limiting the field."

example:

My first 3 questions would be:
A) What (how many?) positions can this player defend vs national level competition?
B) In what ways can this player help us without the ball in their possession vs national level competition?
C) Is this player a specialist/clearly the best at any particular skill relative to the rest of the field trying out and national standard.
