Coach Ebe tweeted that BBC has modified the U16 program to allow kids to play with the club of their choice in addition to playing for Team BC.

Per http://www.basketball.bc.ca/u16-program-overview:
Quote :
The 2016 U16 boys schedule has been modified to allow athletes to participate with their club programs and to also take part in the Provincial Team program.  This modified schedule is structured to identify and prepare an athlete pool  for the 2017 Canada Summer Games.  Specific training and competition weekends have been identified to reduce conflicts, the duration of the program has been adjusted and the cost to participate has been reduced relative to those adjustments.

Should be interesting to see which athletes go with the dual-club model.

Looks like DRIVE's had their tryouts while most clubs have them this week.

Looks like DRIVE's had their tryouts while AE & Team BC are next week.

This is great news for clubs, Basketball BC and overall for hoops in the province. Really glad to see this. Congratulations to everyone who had the good will to get it done. Playing for your province is a great experience.

Maybe not as good as it seemed at first read. I see this is only for U16s. The whole program should be modified - U15s and U17s. But at least there is a bit of progress....

BBC is running this as a pilot project this year at the U16 level with the hopes that they will be able to fully implement it for the U15, U16, & U17 for 2017

The U16 Team BC pilot concept while a step in the right direction is still confusing.

Many of the top clubs play in the same tournaments, so let's say there are 5 tournaments that overlap - who would the best U16's play for...? Will Tomley & Sehic play Drive or BC Team. To be honest this concept only has legs if there is some sort of agreement between Drive & Team BC. If Tomley is allowed to play Team BC, then it's all good.

I've heard that on the Island, University of Victoria has started a Vikes Nations club starting at U12-U17. Will most/all the best Island players just stay at home as well, with UVic coaches & great facilities etc. Love to hear from Oak Bay as they have multiple Gr 10's (U16's) on their Sr team - what are they doing...?

With this new Island program & with the growth of the Okanagan Jr Heat, it's a challenge to get the best players outside of the Lower Mainland. Drive has most of the best LM talent. Once again, get these players & this idea is headed in the right direction.

Maybe like the BC Provincials there are "exceptions". Maybe you keep 2 spots "open" for players who only play Club - but you bring them in for the Nationals, like a Tomley. Exceptions for exceptional talent.

Joe Enevoldson is the U17 Head Coach. I believe Vern Knopp (UBC) and Cassidy Kannemeyer (Capilano) are returning with him as well.

Should be a very strong group of boys with a number of players returning from previous BC teams.

lots of discussion about elite players, howerver, many forget about the development of these players and the program they come from( ask what is the philosophy)
ask the questios about what these programs are trying to accomplish, what are their goals: it seems, parents forget to ask , how will my child be better,
they see how many touenmys they play and think, my son will get better.

not true

I'm not sure people picked up that last sentence. VanCity U16 Elite is "fully sponsored"

7 tournaments, including Kelowna, Seattle, Las Vegas

INCLUDED FOR FREE - Practices, skills sessions, open gyms and training from April 15- July 15, Entry fees to all tournaments, Accommodation for all out of town trips, VanCity gear, plane ticket and ground transportation in Las Vegas.

Anyone want to share what the Drive U16 cost will be, or Team BC...? Given the US dollar & between 5-7 US trips (& maybe 1-2 with flights), won't be cheap.

How were the U16 BC team tryouts? With this new pilot project did more/less athletes come out?

AE will be releasing their rosters after the weekend, I would assume Team BC the same as the SuperCamps don't end until tomorrow afternoon.

BBC U17 - that is one massive team. I can not think of a time that the BC U17's might actually beat Drive Elite U17. This might be the year. NOTE: I obviously didn't include all the graduated players playing for Drive (Udevi, Singh, Liu etc)

Possible BBC U17 starting line-up...? Bigs: Fardaws, Sheppard ; Wing: Morris ; Guards: Bourcier, Touchie  * They could go even bigger at guard with Bourcier, Hadzovic. BIG team.

Drive U17...? Bigs: Van Stanton, Cowley; Wing: Bhullar ; Guards: Rowell, Lizdek

Impressive overall talent. You can see why there was a "who's who" of university & college coaches. Looks like the only missing BC CIS school was UVic. NOTE: For all the negativity around clubs & BBC working together, above is one solution - have enough superior talent for TWO teams. Kudos to players, coaches, parents, clubs & BBC

PostSubject: U17 Team BC Try outs   Mon Apr 04, 2016 10:18 pm

Would have to say this weekend Tryouts for U17 Team BC was impressive to watch. All the amazing CIS coaches running stations, evaluating, and showing their support for the U17 coaches. All the players received amazing instructions and put through the ringer.
lots of exposure for the players that did not make the team.
All of the 20 players who were invited back for Sunday final selection could have made this team. very deep group. fun to watch..Could not have been easy for Coach Joe Evansole and commitee.
Would say this is the best representation of BC talent at the U17 Nationals this summer.

Team BC U17
6'9 Grant Shephard, Kelowna
6'3 Mason Bourcier, Kelowna
6'0 Jaden Touchie, Oak Bay
6'6 Sam Bailey, Vancouver College
6'9 Fardaws Aimaq, Steveston-London
6'0 Michael Kelly, St. Thomas Aquinas
6'5 Cam Morris, St. Thomas More
6'4 Brett Christensen, Walnut Grove
6'8 Nathan Bromige, Lord Byng
6'4 Adam Paige, Semiahmoo
6'5 Jacob Stokker, Penticton Secondary
6'2 Kenan Hadzovic, WJ Mouat
