saying that jp only beat shep by a couple points because they were in the shep gym is a cop out, there werent even very many fans at the game for the shep team so its not like it really could have affected how the team played that much.

Isn’t that a tad bit hypocritical? You mention the game against at RIT being a factor due to Sebastien being out, how is that any different that Tyshawn getting limited minutes due to injury. You also mention the JP victory over Shep, and the importance in noting that it was in Shep’s gym. What happens if/when they get to provincials and might end up playing against Cardston or Raymond on their court in front of, arguably, some the most dedicated fans in the province? You’re only just barely able to beat a team with one of their best players out for the majority of the game, the location should not be a factor (not saying at time it isn’t, but it shouldn’t be.) Even if you disagree, and your point remain then how is that any different than FX losing to JP at REB? FX also beat JP a week prior to that. I don’t mean to take away from JP as a team, but at the end of the day everyone is battling the same problems. And in a month when provincials roll around, a win is a win, regardless of what could or might have happened if someone hadn’t been injured, or if the location had been elsewhere, of if shooting had been better, or if a team didn’t have a bad quarter etc.

first it was NSIT, second the two play two completely different games and play different positions. if the comparison was coleman to tyshawn than it would be fair or Buffie to Haak. apples to oranges as the saying goes.
the point of bringing up that it was in shep's gym is that fair or not calls normally go more in the favour of the home team, it happened at the sugar bowl. at provincials, the refs are supposed to be neutral but who knows. the difference is between jp winning in shep's gym and FX losing at REB is that it there truly wasn't much of a favourite in the game between JP and Shep whereas in both FX vs JP games JP was the favourite, at mike dea it was JP's to lose and they didn't play their game at REB JP played closer to their game but still had plenty of holes in their game and they know how to fix them and will have done so for their next meeting

Sorry I mistyped the tournament/team. Like I said I'm not attacking the JP team, I'm just making a point that everyone is suffering from injuries and other intangibles, February is a tough month. I realize Seb and Ty are completely different positions, but the fact remains that when they are healthy they are dependable, consistent members of their respective teams who get alot of points. The general point I was trying to make was that you can't control the cirumstances you are put in, whether they help or hinder your game or the other team's game. So to blame a loss, or just try to make a win seem bigger than it is is pointless. Everyone's programs are being fine tuned and there is lots of playing left to do. Chances are FX will easily win the Metro City Championships, and JP & Shep will meet up on the Public side, and then we have crossovers to look forward to. So we'll just have to wait and see.

The final chance for ranked matchups to make a statement before playoffs start (my picks):

23 Feb - Scona at JP

25 Feb - Raymond at Magrath

23 Feb - Lazerte at RS

27 Feb - Raymond at Cardston

01 Mar - Edmonton City and Premiere start playoffs

01 Mar - Western at SWC (pull out the upset with their big middle)

02 Mar - Notre Dame at SWC (too tired from yesterday!)

jp is a really solid team, they just lack depth. But i still believe that they will dominate scona though.

Against the good teams though they are in trouble because thats wen there depth issues will really come out.

Who will win between #1 Raymond and #2 Cardston on saturday? It will be close? Lets hear some predictions. I bet Raymond takes it in a close one.

I disagree with raymond by 20 in fact i disagree with raymond winning in cardston !! Raymond played once in cardston and lost i believe in the cougar classic. I think by a small margin. I predict a cardston win by about 5... In all honesty, fans do make a difference and i think cardston will have the advantage with that, how ever if i do remember, Jimmy had a way off game at cougar classic.. It could go both ways but i predict cardston by 5 !! IF cardston does win, what impact do you think it will have on the rankings.. If both teams win out after there match up. Does Cardston take 1st or stay at 2nd. Thoughts ??

Jasper Place did dominate Scona (currently ranked #6)! JP 98 - Scona 80. Scona has no answer for JP's inside game. Sure Scona can bomb away from the outside, but their post players are too soft to compete.

As for the other Top 5 schools, JP lost to St. FX (Ranked #4) by 4, and then one week later beat them by 7 or 8. So much for your "what happens when they play a Top 5 team" argument. JP played Cardston (Ranked #2) at the Sugar Bowl and was winning until the last two minutes (up by 3 points) when they couldn't hit some key free throws and Cardston capitalized and ended up losing by 3. JP played Western Canada (Ranked #3) at a tournament in North Vancouver in December where they played for bronze, and Western won by about 10-15 points. They have not played Raymond yet, so who knows?

Sorry, I don't buy your argument that Jaspet Place don't have depth.

23 Feb - Lazerte 38 at RS 65 (pretty low scoring game!)

25 Feb - Raymond 120 at Magrath 92 (Magrath lost to Catholic Central on Tue - bye bye HM!)

27 Feb - Raymond 107 at Cardston 98

01 - 06 Mar - Premiere - Look for ST FX to win over O'Leary http://www.telusplanet.net/public/metroedm/Basketball/bbstatsrboys.pdf

Public should be more interesting although RS and JP should be battling it out http://consultingservices.epsb.net/physicaleducation/athletics/bb_sh_srm_sched_0910.pdf

01 Mar - Western 93 at SWC 69 (pull out the upset with their big middle - guess not, the big fellas were sucking wind by half time and were non-factors in the 2nd half - credit Western with smothering speed defence and lots of beyond the arc shooting from EVERYBODY!)

02 Mar - Notre Dame at SWC (too tired from yesterday!)

Strathcona should not be on the top 10, since they finished 4th in Edmonton, and Harry Ainlay beat them in the Bronze game.

How does Ross Sheppard jump from 9th to 6th after getting crushed in the Edmonton Public final by 30 points. That doesn`t make a lot of sense. I agree with everything else though.
