Billy Cheng Commits to Timberwolves Basketball Program, May 10, 2011
Prince George, B.C. – UNBC Athletics is proud to announce that Billy Cheng of Richmond, BC has committed to the Timberwolves men’s basketball program.
Cheng is coming off a strong season as the starting point guard for the British Columbia AAA high school boys’ basketball champion R.C. Palmer Griffins. Cheng averaged 12 points per game, 6.5 assists per game, and 2.5 steals per game while quarterbacking his team to the most prestigious title in BC high school sports. His accolades include being named a second team all-star and the best defensive player of the AAA BC Championships. He was also named MVP of the Lower Mainland Championships and co-MVP of the Richmond League. The 5’7” guard will join 6’10” big man Kevan Madsen of Prince George, BC and 6’6” forward Gabe Aubertin of Kettle Falls, WA in what is shaping up to be a very strong recruiting class for Timberwolves Head Coach Todd Jordan. “I am extremely excited to add Billy to our roster,” commented Jordan. “He is a proven winner who has been well coached throughout his high school career. He is also an outstanding student who will represent our program positively in the classroom. His high school coach was former Capilano Blues coach Paul Eberhardt so I know he will come in with a good foundation and the jump to the next level should be a smooth transition. Coach Eberhardt had him running an up-tempo style of offense and Billy has proven he is able to make very good decisions while playing at a fast pace. I think that this ability will lend itself very well to the way we like to play.” Cheng was a co-captain of the R.C. Palmer Griffins and has also represented British Columbia the past three summers as a member of the U15, U16, and U17 provincial teams.
