Haven't seen a lot of Grade 9 teams but, with regard to the Island, SMUS and Nanaimo Wellington look to be among the top.

SMUS beat Wellington in the final of the Cowichan Grade 9 tournament that included eight Island teams.

St. George's beat SMUS by about 13 in a game in early December -- very early on for both teams.

Difficult to say how the Island will fare at Grade 9 provincials.

Today in exhibition at SMUS, VC beat Grade 9 teams from SMUS and Wellington. VC also beat a junior (Grade 9s and 10s) team from Mount Douglas. VC's big post (#33) is a force inside.

mindy has never played his own age in highschool, Churchill is still the favorite though. don't count out kits (only lost to vc by 2) or king george they could also win the grade 9 cities.

Oops, sorry I meant to say Mindy didn't play bantam last year, not that Churchill won bantam last year. Tupper and JO are still the best grade 9 teams in Vancouver. Churchill without Mindy can't really matchup to Tupper or JO. I haven't seen Kits since last year but I've heard they've improved so we'll see.

PostSubject: SMUS takes Island Grade 9 title   Sun Feb 20, 2011 7:05 pm

SMUS will be the Island No. 1 seed at provincials, after beating Wellington by about 15 in Saturday night's championship game at Wellington. SMUS looked strong and deep throughout the tournament beating Ballenas (Parksville) and Spencer (Victoria) before dispatching the host team.

Wellington will go as No. 2 Island seed, but must first beat Ballenas of Parksville in a challenge.

Churchill with Mindy couldn't match JO or Tupper, there's no other talent on that grade 9 team at all. The final this year will be JO vs Tupper again.

In the grade 9 vancouver city finals Kits-45 tupper-44
Both teams will be representing vancouver in the provincials.
