There are a couple very good grade 8 players on SMUS and one on Monterey. I do not know their names, but they deserve to be on the list. It is difficult to identify kids in grade 8 since they do not play as many tournaments, but hopefully coaches in other areas besides Vancouver will add good players. Nice work in helping promote basketball in BC.

No one from John Oliver should be on this list.

I think you're referring to:

Graham Hyde-Lay, SMUS
Jason Scully, SMUS
Max Pollen, SMUS
Taylor Chan, Monterey

The names would only be a guess on my part. I think SMUS may well have three players who deserve to be nominated. Strong athletes, with skills they have clearly worked hard at and they play well as a team. They are also a well-coached team. It would be good to hear other voices from the Island about these players and others.

Monterey is a scrappy team who have a couple good players and one who stood out for me. Most of his points were scored on the fast break against weak transition defences (as is the case at this level), so it was difficult to judge whether his abilities would translate in other styles. He is fast and agile and definitely should be nominated. Again, not sure of his name.

Most of this assessment was based on seeing these players at the SMUS tournament.
