1st Round
SG vs Raymond winner:
Raymond if they fire on all cylinders along with Tollestrup being on her game

O'Leary vs Churchill winner:
O'Leary. They will be looking to rebound from the Rose tournament

JP vs Facey winner:
Jasper Place

Western vs St.Albert winner:
Western. Isidora is the x factor

2nd round

O'Leary vs Raymond winner:
O'Leary will be looking to avenge their loss from the Rose tournament aslong as they contain Tollestrup as she burnt them in the Rose.

Western vs JP winner:
Western as they will be to much for JP to handle.

Gold Medal O'Leary vs Western winner:
O'Leary. If they contain Isidora to a sub par performance and play like the team that they are they should come out on top.

We (SACHS) lost by 30 to Western. Truly overwhelmed by a bigger, more talented team that beat us at what we like to do. The ran and scored in transition and scored inside against our small posts. They are the most talented team from top to bottom of their starting 5 (Hannah played but was not 100%), that we have played against. JP had an outstanding game against them losing by 2 in the semi-finals. Sir Winston beat Raymond by 5 or 7 (backside) and we beat Bev Facey by 2 (backside). We ended up losing by 8 to Churchill in the consolation finals (actually up first 3 quarters but ran into foul trouble / illness / short bench) plus had no answer for 13 (Bachinski?).
I thought we accounted ourselves quite well for a 3a school with no one over 5'9.. sometimes it's the easy putbacks or tough rebounds that get a win and we lack those...
Raymond beat Bev Facey for 7/8 by about 15. Spruce Grove was up at half (single digits) in the 3rd place game vs. JP.
Western / Oleary final should be a good one. Adut had 45 vs Churchill in the opener... yay..we play them on wednesday Shocked
All in all, it was great to see and play some top 4A schools which will only help us done the line..

Final score 69 O'Leary, 64 Western in a close, exciting game.
I guess Celtics prediction was "serious " Laughing
So O'Leary knocks off #2 Churchill, #6 Spruce Grove and #1 Western.
Does that mean the Spartans should be #1 for the final rankings? Are there any major tournaments left ?

As a ranker (although not 4a level) I would say YES Shocked
The only way that I could see something changing would be if somehow Oleary lost in playoffs to an HM or lower team. That might be enough of an upset that even though in head to head they beat the top 2 Calgary teams, losing to such a lower ranked team could spark that argument of them not being #1.
Even if we were to somehow beat Oleary because we are 3A it has a limited effect. We might be drawn into a conversation about common opponents etc. but we would have limited impact.
We talk about this all the time as rankers at the 3A level when it comes to seeding teams that don't play a lot of 3A schools head to head (us for example.. no 3A schools in Metro Premier and we have played largely 4A school tournaments). What we have done is similar to the Spruce Grove tournament in that Wetaskiwin runs a "Last Chance" tournament that invites the typical (last 3 years) stronger teams out of the various zones - Chuck sets up the draw according to the rankings at present and based on the results, it certainly changes or confirms our rankings for provincials. For the last few years we have been pretty well bang on in terms of rankings / tournament results / final provincial standings.

Yes JD. I would have to agree with you. O'Leary should be number one unless they lose in the playoff run.

The games at Spruce Grove were for the most part very close. Coaches were mentioning that this year is not a cake walk for any team at 4A. If you do not show up with your A game - you are going to lose. And anyone can be beaten on any given night. The top 6 (O'Leary, Western, Churchill, Centennial, Spruce Grove, JP) all have a realistic crack at winning provincials. Each of these teams have both an inside and outside game.

There is a tournament next weekend at St. Mary's with top 10 and HM teams playing, but not the top tier. There may be some jostling from 7 to HM. Not sure of all the teams and maybe someone can post who is playing in it. I know Raymond and Catholic Central are there.

St. Mary's tournament:
3 Calgary teams: St. Mary's, Western, EP Scarlett
3 South teams: Catholic Central, Raymond, Cardston.
Each south team will play each Calgary team.
Probably 5 of these 6 teams will be at provincials, St. Mary's is probably good enough but with the way Calgary playoffs are set up would have to beat Winston to get in.
