PostSubject: Northern Playoffs - Sault, Sudbury, North bay & Timmins   Tue Feb 15, 2011 1:27 pm

This is the week that decides three months of playing. Today Superior Heights play a quarter-final game against White Pines.

The winner of that game plays St. basils @ St. Basils on Thursday in one semi-final. Korah plays St. Marys at Marys also on Thursday night. The two winners play on Saturday evening for the city championship.

St. Basil's have already won the league title with a 12-1 record, with St, Marys second at 10-2.

The winner on Saturday evening chooses where they go for NOSSA, either "AA" or "AAA". "AA" being in the Soo, and "AAA" being in Sudbury this year.

How are the other leagues shaping up? Basketball

If all things stays the same, St. Basil's has always gone double "AA" so they will probably go that way if they win, although the road through West Ferris will be a lot harder than through LaSalle or Lockerbie so that might figure into their calculation. Their double digit win over St. Christophers of Sarnia this weekend at the Vetrie would be a good "AA" ranking game for them so might be part of the calculation as well.

As for St. Mary's, if they beat both Korah and St. Basils they are probably doing the same calculation and know while the route to OFSAA "AAA" would be easier through Sudbury the competition would be harder once there that at "AA". Also have the advantage of hometown refs is always a consideration as well as St. Marys found out last year.

Does anyone know if Chippewa out of North Bay is "A" or "AA" this year? Basketball

Since West Ferris automatically has a spot at ofsaa (as the host school) the AA other ofsaa spot is up for grabs. The only concern really is when will they match up with West Ferris because if they lose to them in the Semis then they are out but if they lose to them in the finals, then they go to ofsaa. Matchups will be huge here!

I hear (having spoken to coaches from Sudbury this weekend) that the school in the final not from North Bay needs to win to have a shot. That if West Ferris wins then the second team going to OFSAA will be from North Bay. We really need a clarification from either the North Bay organizing committee or OFSAA itself. Basketball

Regardless of West Ferris does in their playoffs, they will be at OFSAA as the host. Thus, from my understanding, that leaves 1 spot for who ever wins NOSSA. If WF wins NOSSA, then the losing team would receive a bid as well.

Coach T, thank you for the link. I guess then that all that matters is how the seedings go at NOSSA playdown scheduling.

If the final game is between the two best teams then either St. Basil's or Sr. Marys will play West Ferris in the final game of NOSSA after each have played the North Shore and Sudbury 'AA" representatives, meaning that both teams go to OFSAA. Basketball

PostSubject: Sault City Finals   Thu Feb 17, 2011 10:26 pm

St. Basils and St. Marys will meet in the city championship game Saturday evening. St. Marys beat Korah 64-39 at St. Marys and St. Basils beat Superior Heights 58-42 at home as well.

I am not sure if West Ferris plays Algonquin tonight or tomorrow for their city championship.

Who will represent Sudbury in "AA" and North Bay in "AAA" Basketball

St. Basils beat St. Marys 63-44 in the final. The Saints were the better team with no excuses. In two years these two schools are to merge which is crazy and will really cut down on the competition in the city.

Good luck to the Saints at "AA". Good luck to the Knights at "AAA". Let's hope that both teams make it to OFSAA just like the girls did from the Soo. Basketball

I will post the results as I get them. Basketball

St. Marys beat LaSalle 54-38 at Lockerbie. It is a sweep for the Sault in boys basketball.

Sault didn't sweep NOSSA. Algonquin won NOSSA A. White Pines was the SOO rep and lost both their games.

PostSubject: Is not Karma a bitch!   Mon Feb 28, 2011 10:49 am

In regards to West Ferris and Karma!

Please read the last portion of the article linked below and see how a coach should not react after a loss, especially if one is leading young men by example!

His situation sounds very similar to one that took place about a year ago during the NOSSA "AAA" finals at West Ferris. The fouls were 35 to 9 in favour of West Ferris but St. Marys did not walk out like petulant children before shaking hands and accepting the medals. I guess one of Larry's strengths is not hindsight or understanding irony.
