Rebels by 5. xD
It'll be fun to watch Sebastian C from JP and Kyle P from Ainlay put up points from downtown and the crowd going wild !
Seb is definitely harder to defend though. He can beat you off the dribble and finish strong with a layup if defense plays too tight, or shoot the jumper if played too loosely.
Kyle just likes to shoot the jumper. He's not a dribble drive-type player, so he is much easier to defend. His range is deadly but that's about it !
Another thing to add about both players is their innate ability to read the offense. Whoever taught them the proper way to play defense deserves credit.

Keys for JP to win the game:
-Play with INTENSITY
-CLEAN PASSES
-Quick Transition Defense

Keys for Ainlay to win the game:
-Grab the boards
-Quick Transition Offense (Their half court set is TERRIBLE!)

JP lost by 5. Sad

Like predicted, Kyle played great defense.

It was a good win for Ainlay. They led from the beginning till the last buzzer.
Their quick transition offense, offensive boards, and three pointers contributed to their success in claiming gold, the banner, and the bragging rights.

Good luck to both teams in provincials !

PK holds off a tough and huge BF team by 3 to win the Metro league championship. Next up will be the Titans for the Edmonton #1 seed. Go Blues.

I saw the game and I thought Ainlay played very well. For a team that everyone says can only score on the fast break, they sure scored a lot of half-court points. I saw some pretty solid team defence, some good outside shooting and some good rebounding on both ends of the floor. Also thought their coach did a great job with his substitutions. Both their main guards got into early foul trouble, but neither fouled out. Their three bigs played well, Gerdes, Bergen, and Annets. They all stayed out of foul trouble and dominated on the glass. Annets played insane minutes, not sure he came off the court. The kid has a motor.

JP is a very good team, but they just didn't seem to get going on Saturday. Got into foul trouble early and that hurt them. Ainlay defended Cava pretty well. Still, they almost came all the way back. I'm sure they will be right there when Provincials come around.....can't wait. Also looking forward to cross-over week.

The Edmonton final was a very well played game I thought. Both teams had their great plays and good shots. Notably Denzel from JP had two dunks that seemed to really rattle the titans. Annetts played a strong game, never coming off and scoring 27 points for Ainlay, as well as Gerdes kept out of foul trouble which was a major help to their win. JP fought till the end and their loss was partially due to the foul trouble of their team's key players. The titans, despite a scare of losing when they allowed for a 84-83 score in the end of the fourth, deserved their 87-83 win. Hopefully they can keep up the same level of play in the crossover vs PK and onwards into provincials.

Crossovers should be interesting. Can Metro teams beat the trio of Shep Ainley and JP?
Could we see a JP vs Shep rematch?
And with Shep getting the Host School spot, How many spots are going to be taken in the crossovers? Edmonton gets 1 Wild and Strathcona was listed in top 10, but they are not in the Crossovers. Does Edmonton get 5 spots?

Yes right now zones determine which Edmonton teams make provincials. 6 teams are still fighting for seeding.

Public 1- Ainlay
Public 2- JP
Public 3- Shep
Metro 1- Paul Kane
Metro 2- Bev Facey
Metro 3- St. FX

Scona finished 4th in public so they did not qualify for the zone tournament.

Edmonton gets 5 spots this year. 3 normal spots a wild card and a host.

Ainlay, Shep and PK are in. JP, Facey and FX are fighting for the 2 remaining spots. All 6 teams are fighting for seeding.

Remember too, last year Grande Prairie gave up their spot in Provincials which opened up another spot for a wildcard. But, I think that had more to do with travelling to Lethbridge. I am sure they wouldn't do it, this year.

So the 2 Metro teams - Bev Facey and St FX play on Friday to see who does NOT go to provincials. Shep and JP looked to have easy wins over the MEtro teams.
Shep Vs JP on Friday to see who will fight for the #2 seed from Edmonton. This will make their 5 game against each other. Shep won the first 2 early and JP logged 2 impressive wins in recent weeks. Could be an interesting game.

Ainlay dominates PK in the Edmonton final and grabs the top seed. HA was strong throughout especially on the defensive end. Great depth and excellent skills displayed from many of the players. PK needs to regroup before the next game. Go Blues.

This is a response to bballjunkie.

Yes, you're right about Ainlay scoring a lot of half court points. That is mainly due to Keith's offensive boards. Ainlay missed a few break aways, but Keith cleaned up the mess. As I posted before, Ainlay would win the game if they grabbed their rebounds; I was right. PLus, JP did not defend well after scoring their points! Lazy defense ;(
One thing to note is that Ainlay's coach made Galan their starter instead of Kyle.
Seb was in quick foul troubles with that match up. All the calls in the first quarter were in favor for Galan when driving in the line.
