Who is going to make the U17 provincial team this year?
It was hard to come up with 12 players since there will be numberous players battling for spots but this is what I came up with. .....

Mitch Goodwin
Cam Smythe
Braxston Bunce
Nick Irvine
Mitch K
Isaiah Solomon
Dave Manshreck
Greet Gill
these are 8 that I think will make the team fairly easily.
Guys that will be battling for spots are....

Cam Friesen
Sajen Gill
Rav Dhaliwal?
Cole Penman?
Kyle Holden
Ibrahim Ibrahim
Dave Burton
Kealan Wild
Denzel Laguerta
Matt Blackaby
Nolan Hanson
Nick Termansen
Jamie Madewan
Jake Newman

Keep in mind, I just took guys that have made the team in the past. Obviously there will be dozens of other players trying out and who have a shot at making the team.
Who else?

Hoop 4 life
I agree with first 6 picks, I have not seen David M play this year or Greet. If size Ryan S, Nick, Cam S and Braxton all try out I do not see these 2 undersize forwards making it.

Mitch Goodwin
Cam Smythe
Braxston Bunce
Nick Irvine
Mitch K
Isaiah Solomon

Dave Manshreck
Greet Gill
I would like to see Manroop and Sajen try out, They should make it and make the U 17 team very deep.

Penman, Newman, Dhaliwal, and Blackaby are serious contenders.
Point guard position is filled with the Mitchs, and maybe Isaih. Center and PF with Cam S, Braxton and Nic. So the team needs lock down defenders and guys that can play the SF.

I think Trevor Severenski has a good shot playing as a SF and not as a PF

Although Dave and Greet are undersized, they make up for it in toughness and worth ethic. I put them there because they would help make the best Team possible. Yes basketball bc is looking for the most skilled players, but they are mostly looking for guys that will help win a national championship. Guys like Manshreck and Greet would add huge amounts of energy to the floor.

In an ideal situation my 12 would be:

Nick Irvine - PF
Manroop Clair - SG/PG
Mitch Goodwin - PG
Mitch Knippelberg - PG
Braxton Bunce - C
Cam Friesen - SF/G
Greet Gill - SF
Cam Smythe - C/PF
Matt Blackaby - SF/G
Isaiah Solomon - SG/PG
Rav Dhaliwal - PF
Jesse Coy - SF

I think this group would have a good balance of defense and scoring threat, swap in Ryan Sclater if you are worried about size and this team is dangerous.

With Manroop, Mitch K, Mitch G, Isaiah and a bunch of wings that could play guard. I don't see kyle as being a necessity.

If you read my post you would see that this would be the ideal team in my mind. If we were talking about reality there are a few players listed that would not be on the team (Manroop - drive, and other players with injuries etc.)

That's a great list there, and if this were to pan out I see this as one of the strongest u17 provincial teams ever. However, instead of Matt Blackaby I would rather have Cole Penman on that team. With that being said, Blackaby could still make the team because I think Manroop is quite loyal to the Drive program.

Though Ken George has been part of the Drive program for many years he
may choose to play on the provincial team. I think he would be able to
make the team for sure. When he was in grade 10 he played senior and had many 20-30 pt games even at provicials. Any thoughts on him? He's a sf/sg and is a great scorer. He's also long and plays solid d.

Saw him play a few times this year. Very strong player, quite athletic with good size. A knack for scoring the ball from pretty much anywhere. I'd say he would make the Prov team if he tried out.

I personally coach him on our NightHoops team. He can score. He's been working on his jumpshot so pretty much anywhere on the court he can make them in. Strong candidate for the provincial team.

Too bad Drive and Basketball BC couldn't join together because both programs have great players and if they joined together it would be one hell of a team

Who won when the provincial team and drive A team met up a tournament last year? Did they ever even play?

I'm not 100% sure but Drives B team played Provincial team last year and lost in overtime in a tournament in Seattle. Drive A ended up coming 2nd in the whole tournament

The only game I am aware of is the U16 team playing the Drive U 17 team with a few U16's. That was last summer in Seattle. BC U16 team won easily I think it was a mixed Drive A & B players. The teams are often at the same tournaments, but rarely meet up. Drive usually puts its teams in a youngerbracket or in the silver division. Basketball BC competes against the Gold division teams and when they play Drive it is against older players.

True enough. But having 2+ programs like this in the Province makes for more competition which in turn makes for better overall players in BC.

That's what i was saying. The Drive U17/U16 B team competed against U16 provincial team last year and provincial team won in overtime. It was close from what i heard. The drive team was composed of about 3/4 being U16, 1/4 being U17.
Drive U16 A lost to a seattle team in the finals.
tournament was called Seattle True Players Showcase ( Washington Games )

If i'm not mistaken, this topic is about players who have a chance at making the provincial teams this summer and not who won between Basketball BC and Drive. There have been enough arguments about who is better and who has beaten the other. Can there please be one discussion where the two are not compared for once?

So the u17 team has been discussed so far. What about the u16 team. What players have a good shot at making that?

for the u16 team I would think the front runners are (only kids that definatley aren't playing drive):

Chase Ruttenberg
Mark Yorath
Deklan Chung
Jamie Madewan
Peter Spanghel
Christian Mair
Montell Lindgren
Paul Getz
Trevor Casey

That's just off the top of my head, can anyone think of anyone else?

This is slightly random and off the top of my head.

U16:
Jamie Madewan
Paul Getz
Jordan Rich
Chase Ruttenberg
Sam Ykema
Peter Spangehl
Mark Yorath
Elijah Hillis-Gold
Deklan Chung
Luka Zaherijevic
Luka Petkovic
Devin Brar
Christian Mair

alt:
Gio Trassolini
Vartan (no idea how to spell his last name)
Gogy Kumanan

I'm pretty sure the U15 team is basically the Drive Elite teams with some additions. I dont know who will be playing what and will not attempt to guess so here's a team of 12 solid players.

U15:
Tristan Etienne
Mindy Minhas
Buzz Truss
Jadon Cohee
Corey Hauck
Will Latu
Elijah Campbell-Axson
Brendan Bailey
Jaycee Pineda
Adrian Yu
Sukhjot Bains
Matt Chow

i gurantee you that Luka Z will be playing drive.
in you u15 80% of the players you name due indeed play for drive and will most likely be playing for drive in the summer.
